Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

This supplement contains one active ingredient: Tongkat Ali root extract at 300 mg per capsule. Tongkat Ali, also called Eurycoma longifolia, is a Southeast Asian plant root traditionally used for sexual function and general vitality.

The capsule itself is filled with inactive ingredients — cellulose, silica, and magnesium stearate — which are standard binders and flow agents.

Moderate evidence
Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Moderate

Some clinical evidence supports this product's ingredients for its stated purpose, but it isn't conclusive.

Why this rating?
  • The label markets this product for: male sexual function and performance.
  • We looked for evidence on: Age-related testosterone deficiency, Erectile dysfunction (ED), Male Infertility, Sexual desire, Muscle strength, Athletic performance — and 2 related terms.
  • The strongest evidence on file: Eurycoma Longifolia is rated "Possibly Effective" for Sexual desire (Natural Medicines).
  • Also on file: Eurycoma Longifolia is rated "Possibly Ineffective" for Athletic performance.
  • Also on file: Eurycoma Longifolia is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Erectile dysfunction (ED), Muscle strength, Age-related testosterone deficiency, Male Infertility.

The evidence for Tongkat Ali is mixed and limited. For sexual desire, there's some clinical backing — it's rated possibly effective based on available studies.

For athletic performance, the evidence suggests it's probably not helpful (possibly ineffective). For back pain, osteoporosis, and diabetes, there simply isn't enough reliable research to say whether it works or doesn't.

If sexual function is your reason for trying it, the data leans cautiously in your favor, but talk it over with your doctor first.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Tongkat Ali is generally well tolerated in short-term studies, but long-term safety data is thin and product quality can vary widely — that's a gap worth knowing. There's one notable caution: because this supplement may raise testosterone levels, if your testosterone goes above the normal range, you could develop testosterone-related side effects like acne, insulin resistance, or liver toxicity.

Because of possible hormonal effects and limited safety data, the evidence advises against use during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Why this rating?
  • 1 of the 1 matched ingredient can interact with medications — Eurycoma Longifolia.

  • For scale: 248 individual medications appear in the full list. A big number alone doesn't make a product dangerous — what matters is whether YOUR medication is on it, so run yours through the interaction checker on this page.

Check your medications before taking this supplement if you take propranolol (Inderal) or any other blood pressure medicine — Tongkat Ali can reduce how well they work. You'll also want to confirm with your doctor or pharmacist if you're on any drug that your liver breaks down using CYP1A2, CYP2C19, or CYP2A6 enzymes, or if you're taking testosterone replacement.

No interactions are documented for other types of drugs, but the search tool on this page lets you verify your exact medications.

The bottom line

Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.

Tongkat Ali may help with sexual desire based on current evidence, but it's not proven for athletic performance or other uses. The real question is how it'll interact with your specific medications — especially propranolol and other drugs your liver processes.

If you're pregnant, breastfeeding, or taking hormonal medications, this isn't the right choice. Talk with your doctor or pharmacist before starting it to make sure it fits your situation.

Propranolol (Inderal)

Eurycoma longifolia can reduce the levels and clinical effects of propranolol.
A small clinical study in healthy persons shows that taking a single dose of a water-based Eurycoma longifolia extract 200 mg, in combination with a single dose of propranolol 80 mg, reduces the propranolol area under the curve (AUC) by 29%, reduces the peak concentration by 42%, and increases time to peak concentration by 86% when compared with control. Since the elimination half-life of propranolol did not change, it seems that Eurycoma longifolia alters the kinetics of propranolol by decreasing its absorption in the gut, and not by altering its metabolism. It is not known if separating administration will prevent this interaction.

Likelihood Probable Evidence A
Cytochrome P450 1A2 (Cyp1A2) Substrates

Theoretically, Eurycoma longifolia might increase levels CYP1A2 substrates.
In vitro research suggests that methanolic Eurycoma longifolia root extract weakly inhibits CYP1A2 enzymes. This effect has not been reported in humans.

Likelihood Possible Evidence D
Cytochrome P450 2A6 (Cyp2A6) Substrates

Theoretically, Eurycoma longifolia might increase levels of CYP2A6 substrates.
In vitro research suggests that methanolic Eurycoma longifolia root extract weakly inhibits CYP2A6 enzymes. This effect has not been reported in humans.

Likelihood Possible Evidence D
Cytochrome P450 2C19 (Cyp2C19) Substrates

Theoretically, Eurycoma longifolia might increase levels of CYP2C19 substrates.
In vitro research suggests that methanolic Eurycoma longifolia root extract weakly inhibits CYP2C19 enzymes. This effect has not been reported in humans.

Likelihood Possible Evidence D
Testosterone

Theoretically, Eurycoma longifolia may further increase levels of testosterone.
A clinical study in aging males with testosterone levels below 300 ng/dL shows that taking a specific water extract of Eurycoma longifolia roots (Physta; Biotropics Malaysia) 100-200 mg daily with breakfast for 12 weeks increases total testosterone levels by 8% to 11% when compared with placebo. It is unclear whether this increase would occur in individuals with normal testosterone levels.

Longjack 300 Tongkat Ali 300 mg by LuckyHerbs: Common Questions

Does Longjack 300 Tongkat Ali 300 mg by LuckyHerbs interact with any medications?
Yes. Based on its ingredients, Longjack 300 Tongkat Ali 300 mg has a known interaction with 248 medications. Use the checker to see how it interacts with a specific drug.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
Longjack 300 Tongkat Ali 300 mg contains a single active ingredient, and that one ingredient can interact with many different medications on its own. We check it against each medication and show the mechanism responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
Does Tongkat Ali actually improve sexual function?
The research is cautiously positive — it's rated possibly effective for sexual desire based on clinical studies. That means some evidence supports it, but it's not a sure thing, and results vary. Your own results will depend on your situation, so keep your expectations realistic and talk with your doctor about whether it makes sense for you.
Can I take this if I'm pregnant or breastfeeding?
No. The safety data advises against using Tongkat Ali during pregnancy because of possible hormonal effects and limited safety information. The same goes for breastfeeding — there isn't enough reliable safety data. Talk with your doctor or pharmacist if you're considering it before or after pregnancy.
What are the side effects?
The main risk is if Tongkat Ali raises your testosterone beyond the normal range. That could lead to acne, insulin resistance, liver problems, and other testosterone-related effects. The supplement itself is generally well tolerated in short-term use, but long-term safety isn't well established.
Will this work for back pain or osteoporosis?
The evidence isn't there yet to say. There isn't enough reliable research on Tongkat Ali for either of those conditions, so we can't rate it as effective or ineffective. If that's what you're treating, talk with your doctor about options with stronger evidence behind them.
What's the difference between this and other Tongkat Ali products?
This product contains 300 mg of Tongkat Ali root extract per capsule. Quality and potency vary widely across brands because supplement manufacturing isn't as tightly regulated as prescription drugs. Your doctor or pharmacist can help you pick a reliable brand if you decide to use Tongkat Ali.
Can I use this if I'm on testosterone replacement?
Probably not without checking first. Tongkat Ali may raise testosterone levels further, and combining them could push your testosterone too high and cause side effects. Your doctor needs to know if you're considering both — they may need to adjust one or the other, or advise against combining them.
