By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Moderate

Some clinical evidence supports this product's ingredients for its stated purpose, but it isn't conclusive.

Why this rating?
  • The label markets this product for: male sexual health and testosterone support.
  • We looked for evidence on: Age-related testosterone deficiency, Erectile dysfunction (ED), Male Infertility, Muscle strength, Sexual desire, libido — and 2 related terms.
  • The strongest evidence on file: Eurycoma Longifolia is rated "Possibly Effective" for Sexual desire (Natural Medicines).
  • Also on file: Eurycoma Longifolia is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Erectile dysfunction (ED), Muscle strength, Age-related testosterone deficiency, Male Infertility.

The extract shows possibly effective evidence for sexual desire. For athletic performance, the evidence leans toward possibly ineffective.

The data we hold does not establish reliable evidence for back pain, osteoporosis, or diabetes, so we can't rate its use for those conditions.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Eurycoma longifolia is generally well tolerated in short-term studies, but long-term safety isn't well established and product quality can vary. The extract may raise testosterone levels, and if that goes above normal, there's a risk of testosterone-related side effects including acne, insulin resistance, and liver problems.

Because of possible hormonal effects and insufficient safety data, it's not recommended during pregnancy or while breastfeeding — talk with your doctor or pharmacist for personalized advice if you're in either situation or thinking about becoming pregnant.

The most serious documented interaction for these ingredients is Moderate. Check your medications for a personalized result.

Why this rating?
  • 1 of the 1 matched ingredient can interact with medications — Eurycoma Longifolia.
  • The most serious interaction on file is rated Moderate.
  • For scale: 248 individual medications appear in the full list. A big number alone doesn't make a product dangerous — what matters is whether YOUR medication is on it, so run yours through the interaction checker on this page.

Before taking Longjack Extract, double-check with your doctor or pharmacist if you take propranolol (Inderal) or any other heart or blood pressure medication, since this extract can reduce propranolol's effectiveness (Moderate severity). Additionally, if you take medications processed through your liver — including many antidepressants, certain cancer drugs, and others — the extract may cause them to build up, though this has only been shown in lab studies so far.

And if you use testosterone therapy or replacement, talk it over first, since this extract may raise testosterone further.

The bottom line

Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.

Longjack Extract may help with sexual desire, and it's generally tolerated short-term in studies. However, it interacts with propranolol and potentially many other medications processed through your liver, and it can raise testosterone levels.

If you take any prescription medications — especially blood pressure drugs — or you're pregnant, breastfeeding, or considering either, check with your doctor or pharmacist before starting it.

Propranolol (Inderal)

Eurycoma longifolia can reduce the levels and clinical effects of propranolol.
A small clinical study in healthy persons shows that taking a single dose of a water-based Eurycoma longifolia extract 200 mg, in combination with a single dose of propranolol 80 mg, reduces the propranolol area under the curve (AUC) by 29%, reduces the peak concentration by 42%, and increases time to peak concentration by 86% when compared with control. Since the elimination half-life of propranolol did not change, it seems that Eurycoma longifolia alters the kinetics of propranolol by decreasing its absorption in the gut, and not by altering its metabolism. It is not known if separating administration will prevent this interaction.

Likelihood Probable Evidence A
Cytochrome P450 1A2 (Cyp1A2) Substrates

Theoretically, Eurycoma longifolia might increase levels CYP1A2 substrates.
In vitro research suggests that methanolic Eurycoma longifolia root extract weakly inhibits CYP1A2 enzymes. This effect has not been reported in humans.

Likelihood Possible Evidence D
Cytochrome P450 2A6 (Cyp2A6) Substrates

Theoretically, Eurycoma longifolia might increase levels of CYP2A6 substrates.
In vitro research suggests that methanolic Eurycoma longifolia root extract weakly inhibits CYP2A6 enzymes. This effect has not been reported in humans.

Likelihood Possible Evidence D
Cytochrome P450 2C19 (Cyp2C19) Substrates

Theoretically, Eurycoma longifolia might increase levels of CYP2C19 substrates.
In vitro research suggests that methanolic Eurycoma longifolia root extract weakly inhibits CYP2C19 enzymes. This effect has not been reported in humans.

Likelihood Possible Evidence D
Testosterone

Theoretically, Eurycoma longifolia may further increase levels of testosterone.
A clinical study in aging males with testosterone levels below 300 ng/dL shows that taking a specific water extract of Eurycoma longifolia roots (Physta; Biotropics Malaysia) 100-200 mg daily with breakfast for 12 weeks increases total testosterone levels by 8% to 11% when compared with placebo. It is unclear whether this increase would occur in individuals with normal testosterone levels.

Longjack Extract by BulkSupplements.com: Common Questions

Does Longjack Extract by BulkSupplements.com interact with any medications?
Yes. Based on its ingredients, Longjack Extract has a known interaction with 248 medications. Use the checker to see how it interacts with a specific drug.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
Longjack Extract contains a single active ingredient, and that one ingredient can interact with many different medications on its own. We check it against each medication and show the mechanism responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
Does Longjack actually help with sexual function?
The data shows it's possibly effective for sexual desire. That's a modest rating — there's some evidence, but it's not definitive. Whether it will work for you is individual, and talking with your doctor can help you weigh whether to try it.
Can I take this if I'm on blood pressure medication?
Not without checking first. Longjack can reduce how well propranolol (Inderal) works in your body. If you take that or other heart or blood pressure drugs, talk with your doctor or pharmacist before adding this extract — they may need to adjust your medication or monitor you more closely.
What are the side effects?
In short-term studies it's generally well tolerated. The main concern is that if it raises your testosterone too high, you might experience acne, insulin resistance, liver problems, or other testosterone-related effects. Long-term safety isn't well known.
Is it safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?
No — there isn't enough safety data, and because of possible hormonal effects, it's recommended to avoid it in both situations. Talk with your doctor or pharmacist if you're pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning pregnancy.
Does it help with athletic performance?
The evidence leans toward no — possibly ineffective. If you're interested in it for that reason, other approaches may be worth discussing with your doctor.
