Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

This product contains one active ingredient: Longjack (also called Tongkat Ali), supplied as a 100:1 extract — meaning the powder is 100 times more concentrated than the raw plant root. The only other ingredient is maltodextrin, an inactive filler used to make the powder easier to handle.

Longjack comes from the Eurycoma longifolia plant, native to Southeast Asia. Traditionally it's been used to support energy and sexual function, though the scientific evidence for some of these uses is still developing.

Moderate evidence
Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed

This product doesn't appear to be marketed for a specific use, so we graded Eurycoma Longifolia's overall clinical evidence instead.

Moderate

Some clinical evidence supports Eurycoma Longifolia for:

Why this rating?
  • We looked at the product name, claims, and label statements and couldn't find a stated purpose to grade.
  • Since the label doesn't commit to one use, we graded the ingredient's overall clinical evidence instead.
  • On file: Sexual desire — rated "Possibly Effective" (Natural Medicines).

The evidence for Longjack is mixed and depends on what you're using it for. The data shows it's possibly effective for sexual desire, but possibly ineffective for athletic performance.

For back pain, osteoporosis, and diabetes, we don't have enough reliable evidence to say whether it works or doesn't — the research just isn't there yet in the sources we hold.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Longjack is generally tolerated in short-term studies, but we don't have solid long-term safety data or reliable information about product quality across different brands. The supplement may increase testosterone levels, and if levels go too high, there's a risk of testosterone-related side effects including acne, insulin resistance, and liver toxicity.

Because of possible hormonal effects and limited safety information, the data advises against using Longjack during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. If you're pregnant, planning pregnancy, or nursing, talk with your doctor or pharmacist before considering this product.

The most serious documented interaction for these ingredients is Moderate. Check your medications for a personalized result.

Why this rating?
  • 1 of the 1 matched ingredient can interact with medications — Eurycoma Longifolia.
  • The most serious interaction on file is rated Moderate.
  • For scale: 248 individual medications appear in the full list. A big number alone doesn't make a product dangerous — what matters is whether YOUR medication is on it, so run yours through the interaction checker on this page.

Before you take Longjack, double-check it with your doctor or pharmacist if you're on propranolol (Inderal) or any other beta-blocker — the interaction is Moderate and can reduce how well the blood pressure medication works. Also flag any medications that your liver breaks down, including many antidepressants, blood thinners, and other common drugs, because Longjack may raise their levels.

If you're on testosterone replacement therapy or other hormonal medications, confirm it's okay to add this supplement.

The bottom line

Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence behind its ingredients' uses. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.

Longjack might be worth considering if you're interested in sexual desire support, but it's not established for athletic performance or several other uses. Because it interacts with a significant number of medications — especially propranolol and drugs your liver processes — and may raise testosterone levels, you'll want to check with your own doctor or pharmacist before starting it, especially if you take heart or blood pressure medications, or any prescription drugs metabolized by your liver.

Pregnant people and those breastfeeding should avoid it.

Propranolol (Inderal)

Eurycoma longifolia can reduce the levels and clinical effects of propranolol.
A small clinical study in healthy persons shows that taking a single dose of a water-based Eurycoma longifolia extract 200 mg, in combination with a single dose of propranolol 80 mg, reduces the propranolol area under the curve (AUC) by 29%, reduces the peak concentration by 42%, and increases time to peak concentration by 86% when compared with control. Since the elimination half-life of propranolol did not change, it seems that Eurycoma longifolia alters the kinetics of propranolol by decreasing its absorption in the gut, and not by altering its metabolism. It is not known if separating administration will prevent this interaction.

Likelihood Probable Evidence A
Cytochrome P450 1A2 (Cyp1A2) Substrates

Theoretically, Eurycoma longifolia might increase levels CYP1A2 substrates.
In vitro research suggests that methanolic Eurycoma longifolia root extract weakly inhibits CYP1A2 enzymes. This effect has not been reported in humans.

Likelihood Possible Evidence D
Cytochrome P450 2A6 (Cyp2A6) Substrates

Theoretically, Eurycoma longifolia might increase levels of CYP2A6 substrates.
In vitro research suggests that methanolic Eurycoma longifolia root extract weakly inhibits CYP2A6 enzymes. This effect has not been reported in humans.

Likelihood Possible Evidence D
Cytochrome P450 2C19 (Cyp2C19) Substrates

Theoretically, Eurycoma longifolia might increase levels of CYP2C19 substrates.
In vitro research suggests that methanolic Eurycoma longifolia root extract weakly inhibits CYP2C19 enzymes. This effect has not been reported in humans.

Likelihood Possible Evidence D
Testosterone

Theoretically, Eurycoma longifolia may further increase levels of testosterone.
A clinical study in aging males with testosterone levels below 300 ng/dL shows that taking a specific water extract of Eurycoma longifolia roots (Physta; Biotropics Malaysia) 100-200 mg daily with breakfast for 12 weeks increases total testosterone levels by 8% to 11% when compared with placebo. It is unclear whether this increase would occur in individuals with normal testosterone levels.

Longjack (Tongkat Ali) 100:1 by PureBulk.com: Common Questions

Does Longjack (Tongkat Ali) 100:1 by PureBulk.com interact with any medications?
Yes. Based on its ingredients, Longjack (Tongkat Ali) 100:1 has a known interaction with 248 medications. Use the checker to see how it interacts with a specific drug.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
Longjack (Tongkat Ali) 100:1 contains a single active ingredient, and that one ingredient can interact with many different medications on its own. We check it against each medication and show the mechanism responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
Does Longjack actually work for sexual desire?
The data shows it's possibly effective for sexual desire, which means there's some evidence supporting it but the research isn't definitive. Results can vary from person to person, and it's worth talking with your doctor about whether it might help in your situation.
Can I take this while pregnant or breastfeeding?
No — the safety data advises against Longjack during pregnancy because of possible hormonal effects and limited safety information. If you're breastfeeding, there's not enough reliable safety data, so it's best to avoid it. Talk with your doctor or pharmacist about safer options if you're in either situation.
What are the possible side effects?
If Longjack raises your testosterone levels too high, you might experience testosterone-related side effects like acne, insulin resistance, and liver problems. Short-term studies show it's generally tolerated, but long-term safety data is limited, so we don't know all the risks of using it over time.
Is this the same as Tongkat Ali?
Yes — Longjack and Tongkat Ali are the same plant (Eurycoma longifolia). This product is a 100:1 extract, meaning it's concentrated 100 times stronger than the raw root, so you're getting a potent dose in each serving.
What does the '100:1' mean?
The 100:1 ratio means the powder is made by concentrating the plant material — it takes 100 pounds of raw root to make 1 pound of this extract. It's a way to make Longjack more potent and easier to dose as a powder.
Will this interfere with my blood pressure medication?
Possibly — if you take propranolol (Inderal), Longjack can lower the drug's levels in your blood by about 29%, which may reduce how well it controls your blood pressure. Even if you're on a different blood pressure medication, check with your pharmacist first, because Longjack affects how your liver processes several drug types.
