Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.

This product contains one active ingredient: magnolia bark glycerite liquid extract. The liquid also includes glycerin and strawberry flavor as inactive ingredients (excipients that help deliver and flavor the extract).

Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Insufficient

There isn't enough reliable clinical evidence to rate this product's ingredients for its stated purpose.

Why this rating?
  • The label markets this product for: anxiety and stress management.
  • We looked for evidence on: Anxiety, Stress, Sleep disturbance, Emotional well-being.
  • The closest evidence on file: Magnolia is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Anxiety (Natural Medicines).
  • Also on file: Magnolia is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Stress.

The evidence for magnolia bark is mixed. It's considered possibly effective for gingivitis (gum inflammation).

For hay fever and anxiety, there isn't enough reliable evidence to rate how well it works. The same goes for dental plaque—the data we hold doesn't establish effectiveness for that use.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Orally, magnolia bark is generally well tolerated, but human safety data is limited. You should know that in a small number of trial participants taking a combination product containing magnolia and other herbs, side effects like shaking hands, numbness around the mouth, fatigue, and headache were reported—though it's unclear whether magnolia was responsible.

For pregnancy, the safety data advises against use. There isn't enough reliable safety information for breastfeeding, so it's best avoided while nursing.

If you're pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding, talk with your doctor or pharmacist before taking this product.

The most serious documented interaction for these ingredients is Moderate. Check your medications for a personalized result.

Why this rating?
  • 1 of the 1 matched ingredient can interact with medications — Magnolia.
  • The most serious interaction on file is rated Moderate.
  • Some involve high-stakes drug classes: anticoagulant / antiplatelet drugs.
  • For scale: 351 individual medications appear in the full list. A big number alone doesn't make a product dangerous — what matters is whether YOUR medication is on it, so run yours through the interaction checker on this page.

Before taking this product, check with your doctor or pharmacist if you take blood thinners or antiplatelet drugs (warfarin, clopidogrel, aspirin, and others)—magnolia may increase bleeding risk. Also double-check if you use CNS depressants like sedatives, sleep aids, anxiety medications, opioids, or drink alcohol regularly, since magnolia may add to sedation.

The bottom line

Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with insufficient evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.

Magnolia bark may help with gingivitis, but the evidence for other uses is thin or absent. The main caution is with blood thinners, antiplatelet drugs, and sedating medications—check your exact prescriptions before you start.

Because pregnancy safety is a concern and breastfeeding data is sparse, pregnant or nursing people should confirm with their own doctor or pharmacist first. It's generally well tolerated by mouth, though long-term safety in humans hasn't been fully studied.

Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs

Theoretically, magnolia might have additive effects and increase the risk of bleeding when used with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs.
In vitro research shows that the chemicals magnolol and honokiol, isolated from magnolia bark, inhibit platelet aggregation that is experimentally induced by collagen and arachidonic acid. However, they do not inhibit platelet aggregation that is induced by adenosine diphosphate, platelet-activating factor, or thrombin. This interaction has not been reported in humans.

Likelihood Possible Evidence D
Cns Depressants

Theoretically, concomitant use of large doses of magnolia bark and CNS depressants might have additive effects.
In vitro and animal research shows that constituents extracted from magnolia bark, especially honokiol and magnolol, have sedative effects. These effects may be due to the inhibition of catecholamine release and modulation of gamma-aminobutyric acid-A (GABA-A) receptors.
