Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

Magnolia Select contains one active ingredient: magnolia bark extract, derived from the magnolia plant. The capsule also includes inactive ingredients — cellulose, microcrystalline cellulose, and L-leucine — which serve as fillers and capsule material.

Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Insufficient

There isn't enough reliable clinical evidence to rate this product's ingredients for its stated purpose.

Why this rating?
  • The label markets this product for: Anxiety and stress support.
  • We looked for evidence on: Anxiety, Stress.
  • The closest evidence on file: Magnolia is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Anxiety (Natural Medicines).
  • Also on file: Magnolia is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Stress.

The evidence for magnolia bark is mixed. It's rated possibly effective for gingivitis (gum inflammation).

For allergic rhinitis (hay fever), anxiety, and dental plaque, the evidence isn't strong enough to establish whether it works — these lack sufficient reliable data in the studies we reviewed.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Orally, magnolia bark extract appears well tolerated in most people, though long-term human safety data is limited. The most common side effect from topical use is contact dermatitis (skin irritation).

In clinical trials of combination products containing magnolia, a small number of patients reported sexual dysfunction, shaking hands, perilabial numbness, fatigue, and headache, though it's unclear whether these were caused by magnolia or another ingredient. Magnolia bark is rated unsafe in pregnancy — safety data suggests it may affect the uterus, so avoid it if you're pregnant or planning to become pregnant.

It's also best avoided while breastfeeding due to insufficient safety information. Talk with your doctor or pharmacist for personalized advice if you're pregnant, breastfeeding, or considering either.

Before taking Magnolia Select, double-check any blood thinners or antiplatelet medications (warfarin, aspirin, clopidogrel, and others) — the interaction is Moderate and could increase bleeding risk. Also review any sedating drugs you take, including sleep aids, anxiety medications, opioids, and other central nervous system depressants, since magnolia may intensify their drowsy effects.

Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs

Theoretically, magnolia might have additive effects and increase the risk of bleeding when used with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs.
In vitro research shows that the chemicals magnolol and honokiol, isolated from magnolia bark, inhibit platelet aggregation that is experimentally induced by collagen and arachidonic acid. However, they do not inhibit platelet aggregation that is induced by adenosine diphosphate, platelet-activating factor, or thrombin. This interaction has not been reported in humans.

Likelihood Possible Evidence D
Cns Depressants

Theoretically, concomitant use of large doses of magnolia bark and CNS depressants might have additive effects.
In vitro and animal research shows that constituents extracted from magnolia bark, especially honokiol and magnolol, have sedative effects. These effects may be due to the inhibition of catecholamine release and modulation of gamma-aminobutyric acid-A (GABA-A) receptors.
