Marshmallow Root Extract, Powder monograph & interactionsMarshmallow Root 4:1 Extract Powder by TerraVita Premium Collection Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Marshmallow Root 4:1 Extract Powder by TerraVita Premium Collection does interact with some medications, mainly through its potential diuretic effect and its mucilage content.
The most serious concern is with lithium (a mood stabilizer), where marshmallow might reduce how your body clears it, raising lithium levels and risking toxicity — your doctor may need to adjust your lithium dose if you take this supplement.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Marshmallow can also interfere with how your body absorbs other oral medications. To avoid this, take marshmallow 30 to 60 minutes after your other pills.
Additionally, the flower part of marshmallow has shown antiplatelet effects in animal studies, which could theoretically add to the effect of blood thinners (anticoagulants) or antiplatelet drugs — though this product uses the root, not the flower, so the risk is lower.
Altogether, these interactions span 2,041 individual medications. Use the interaction checker below with your exact prescriptions before you start this supplement.

For each ingredient in Marshmallow Root 4:1 Extract Powder with known interactions, here are the types of medications it can affect. Open any type for the detail — or search your exact drug in the checker above.
Marshmallow Root Extract, Powder
Lithium
Theoretically, due to potential diuretic effects, marshmallow might reduce excretion and increase levels of lithium.
Marshmallow is thought to have diuretic properties. To avoid lithium toxicity, the dose of lithium might need to be decreased when used with marshmallow.
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Theoretically, marshmallow flower might have antiplatelet effects.
Animal research suggests that marshmallow flower extract has antiplatelet effects. However, the root and leaf of marshmallow, not the flower, are the plant parts most commonly found in dietary supplements. Theoretically, use of marshmallow flower with anticoagulant/antiplatelet drugs can have additive effects, and might increase the risk for bleeding in some patients.
Oral Drugs
Theoretically, mucilage in marshmallow might impair absorption of oral drugs.
Marshmallow contains mucilage which can affect oral drug absorption. To avoid changes in absorption, take marshmallow 30-60 minutes after oral medications.
