Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

This product is pure mullein powder — a single active ingredient made from the leaves of the mullein plant. There are no other active ingredients and no inactive fillers listed.

Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Not assessable

This is a single-ingredient Mullein product and its label doesn't state a use — see Mullein's own graded uses on its monograph.

Why this rating?
  • We looked at the product name, claims, and label statements and couldn't find a stated purpose to grade.

The evidence we hold for mullein doesn't support reliable claims about any condition. Studies on cough, bronchitis, asthma, diarrhea, and migraine headache all show insufficient evidence to rate whether it actually works.

That doesn't mean it doesn't; it means the science hasn't clearly established it yet.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Mullein is generally well tolerated for short-term use, though human safety data are limited overall. The main concern we know about is dermatitis (a skin rash) from direct contact with the plant or from inhaling the dust — a few case reports describe this, usually in people who also reacted to other plants.

The safety data advise against using mullein during pregnancy and while breastfeeding, as there isn't enough information to know either way. If you're pregnant, nursing, or planning to be, talk with your doctor or pharmacist about whether this is right for you.

Minor interactions only
Known Interaction Concern · database check
Minor only

Only Minor-severity interactions are documented for these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • 1 of the 1 matched ingredient can interact with medications — Mullein.
  • The most serious interaction on file is rated Minor.
  • Some involve high-stakes drug classes: anticoagulant / antiplatelet drugs.
  • For scale: 122 individual medications appear in the full list. A big number alone doesn't make a product dangerous — what matters is whether YOUR medication is on it, so run yours through the interaction checker on this page.

Check with your doctor or pharmacist before taking this if you're on blood thinners (anticoagulants or antiplatelets) — mullein can mildly increase clotting time. Use the medication checker below to confirm your specific drugs.

Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs

Lab tests on extracts from different parts of common and dense-flowered mullein plants show that they do have some blood-thinning effects, as they increase the time it takes for blood to clot. This is likely due to at least one of the known constituents of muellein, triterpenoid saponins. However, the effects appear to be mild and results have been inconsistent. Extracts from different plant parts have been show to have varying anticoagulant strengths, with water-based ones being more potent than alcohol-based extracts.

Mullein Leaf Powder by TerraVita Premium Collection: Common Questions

Does Mullein Leaf Powder by TerraVita Premium Collection interact with any medications?
Yes. Based on its ingredients, Mullein Leaf Powder has a known interaction with 122 medications. Use the checker to see how it interacts with a specific drug.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
Mullein Leaf Powder contains a single active ingredient, and that one ingredient can interact with many different medications on its own. We check it against each medication and show the mechanism responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
Can I take mullein if I'm pregnant or breastfeeding?
The safety data advise against it for both pregnancy and breastfeeding — there isn't enough information to know it's safe. Talk with your doctor or pharmacist for personalized advice.
Does mullein actually work for cough and bronchitis?
We don't have enough reliable evidence to say whether it works for those or for asthma, diarrhea, or migraine. It's a traditional remedy, but modern studies haven't clearly established it yet.
Can mullein cause a skin rash?
Yes — a few case reports describe dermatitis from direct contact with the plant or from inhaling the dust. It happened in people who also reacted to other plants, so the risk may be higher if you have sensitive skin or plant allergies.
Is this just mullein, or are there other ingredients?
This is pure mullein leaf powder with no other active or inactive ingredients — just the plant itself.
How long can I safely take mullein?
It's generally well tolerated for short-term use, but we don't have much human safety data for longer periods. Talk with your pharmacist about how long you're planning to use it.
