This product contains one active ingredient: Pantethine, a form of pantothenic acid (vitamin B5) that your body converts into an active compound. The tablet also includes several inactive ingredients—microcrystalline cellulose, croscarmellose sodium, stearic acid, vegetable stearate, silica, and a coating—that help hold the tablet together and aid absorption.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
Pantethine is possibly effective for high levels of a certain type of cholesterol (hyperlipoproteinemia). For athletic performance, there isn't enough reliable evidence in our data to say whether it works.
The same goes for general high cholesterol (hyperlipidemia) and for pantothenate kinase-associated neurodegeneration (PKAN)—the evidence isn't established enough to rate it one way or the other.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Pantethine is generally well tolerated in studies, though long-term safety data are limited. The most common side effects are mild gastrointestinal complaints—nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, bloating, flatulence, and epigastric discomfort.
Rarely, mild itching has been reported. There isn't enough reliable safety data in pregnancy to know whether it's safe, so it's best to avoid it unless your doctor advises otherwise.
Safety during breastfeeding hasn't been well studied, so caution is advised. Talk with your doctor or pharmacist about your individual situation.
