Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: wildcrafted pau d'arco dried bark liquid extract. Pau d'arco (also called ipe or lapacho) is a tree bark traditionally used in herbal medicine, and its extract here is in liquid form for easy dosing.
The extract contains lapachol and other compounds from the bark.
Does it work?
Couldn't assess
The evidence we hold shows insufficient reliable data to rate pau d'arco for cancer, peptic ulcers, wound healing, or dysmenorrhea. That means clinical trials haven't yet established whether it works for these uses — not that it doesn't work, but that we can't say one way or the other based on current research.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Pau d'arco is generally well tolerated at lower doses, but human safety data is limited and higher doses carry risk. The lapachol in pau d'arco — at doses above 1.5 grams daily — may cause anemia, increased bleeding, severe nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.
Occupational exposure to pau d'arco sawdust can trigger asthma and serious skin reactions, though that risk is mainly for workers handling the raw material. The safety data advises against pau d'arco during pregnancy due to the possibility of harm to the developing baby and lack of safety information.
There isn't enough data to know whether it's safe while breastfeeding — talk with your doctor or pharmacist for personalized guidance if you're nursing.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before you take this product, double-check if you're on any blood thinners or antiplatelet drugs — that's where the documented interaction risk lies. These include warfarin, apixaban, clopidogrel, aspirin (at antiplatelet doses), and many others.
Your doctor or pharmacist can tell you whether pau d'arco is safe to combine with your specific medications.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Pau d'arco may be worth considering if you're exploring herbal remedies, but it's not proven to work for any of the common uses listed on product labels. If you take blood thinners or antiplatelet drugs, check with your doctor or pharmacist before starting — the herb can increase bleeding risk.
Pregnant or breastfeeding? Talk with your healthcare provider first.
Higher doses carry real risks, so stick to label directions and don't exceed them.

Pau D'Arco by Herbal Terra Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Pau D'Arco by Herbal Terra can interact with blood thinners and antiplatelet drugs (medications that reduce clotting).
The herb itself may thin the blood further, and its active constituent lapachol can interfere with vitamin K and reduce platelet clumping — raising the risk of bleeding when combined with these medications.
