Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: phosphatidylserine at 1500 mg per softgel. Phosphatidylserine is a phospholipid — a fat-like substance — that's a natural part of cell membranes, especially in your brain.
The softgel capsule also contains gelatin, vegetable glycerin, and natural caramel color as inactive ingredients.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
Phosphatidylserine is rated possibly effective for age-related cognitive decline and Alzheimer disease based on current evidence. For athletic performance, cognitive function, dementia, and ADHD, the evidence available isn't reliable enough to rate its effectiveness — we simply don't have enough solid data yet.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Phosphatidylserine is generally well tolerated in studies, though long-term safety hasn't been fully established. The most common side effects are flatulence, gastrointestinal upset, headache, insomnia, and nausea — with gastrointestinal upset reported at doses around 200–300 mg daily and insomnia more likely at higher doses around 600 mg.
There isn't enough safety information to recommend phosphatidylserine during pregnancy, so avoidance is advised. Safety while breastfeeding is also unknown — avoidance is recommended.
Talk with your doctor or pharmacist about whether this product is right for you if you're pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before you take DC's Phosphatidyl Serine Complex, double-check any anticholinergic medications (used for conditions like overactive bladder, muscle spasms, or Parkinson disease) and any cholinergic drugs (used to increase acetylcholine activity) with your pharmacist or doctor — both may be affected.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence behind its ingredients' uses. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Phosphatidylserine may help with age-related cognitive decline or Alzheimer disease, though the evidence is still developing. If you take anticholinergic or cholinergic medications, check with your doctor or pharmacist before starting — this product could theoretically affect how they work.
Avoid it during pregnancy and while breastfeeding unless your doctor advises otherwise.

Phosphatidyl Serine Complex 1500 mg by DC Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
DC's Phosphatidyl Serine Complex contains phosphatidylserine, which has documented interactions with two medication categories.
The most serious concern is with anticholinergic drugs (Moderate severity) — phosphatidylserine may theoretically decrease how well these medications work by raising acetylcholine levels in your body, which opposes what anticholinergics are designed to do.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Phosphatidylserine may also have additive effects with cholinergic drugs (Moderate severity) — medications that work by increasing acetylcholine. Combined use could theoretically intensify cholinergic effects beyond what either would do alone.
Alone, phosphatidylserine has no other known interaction categories documented in our data. Altogether, these interactions span 219 individual medications.
Before you start this product, use the search tool on this page to check your exact medications, especially any anticholinergic or cholinergic prescriptions.
