Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains 2 active ingredients: betaine anhydrous and betaine nitrate, supplying a total of 1,300 mg of betaine. Betaine is an amino acid derivative your body uses to support various metabolic functions.
The inactive ingredients are microcrystalline cellulose, croscarmellose sodium, stearic acid, coating, hydroxypropylcellulose, crospovidone, silicon dioxide, magnesium stearate, and acesulfame-potassium.
Does it work?
Strong evidence
Betaine anhydrous is effective for homocystinuria (a rare genetic disorder affecting amino acid metabolism). It's possibly effective for hyperhomocysteinemia (elevated homocysteine levels in the blood).
For nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (fatty liver disease without alcohol use), colorectal adenoma (precancerous polyps), depression, and GERD (acid reflux), there isn't enough reliable evidence yet to say whether it works.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Betaine anhydrous is generally well tolerated at studied doses, but you should check with your doctor before starting. The most common side effects are body odor, diarrhea, elevated cholesterol, stomach upset, nausea, and vomiting.
Rare serious effects include cerebral edema (brain swelling). Safety during breastfeeding isn't well established, so caution is advised if you're nursing.
There isn't enough reliable safety data overall, so it's best to avoid unless your doctor recommends it.
Meds to double-check
No known interactions
No interactions are documented in our data for the ingredients we could check in this product. That said, it's still smart to run your exact medications through the checker below before you start, just to be thorough.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with strong clinical evidence behind its ingredients' uses. No medication interactions are currently documented, and safety information is well characterized.
Platinum 100% Betaine is most useful if you have homocystinuria or are being treated for elevated homocysteine under medical supervision. If you're nursing or pregnant, talk to your doctor first — the safety data isn't solid enough to know it's okay.
Anyone considering it should check with their pharmacist, especially if they have a history of digestive issues or elevated cholesterol.
