Bacillus coagulans (listed here as Uni-BactCF-15) is a probiotic — a live microorganism intended to support gut health. The Super Probiotic Blend is a mix of additional beneficial microorganisms.
The product also contains inactive ingredients (microcrystalline cellulose, dicalcium phosphate, stearic acid, croscarmellose sodium, silicon dioxide, vegetable magnesium stearate, and hydroxypropyl methylcellulose) that help hold the tablet together and aid in its release.
Does it work?
Strong evidence
Lactase is effective for lactose intolerance — the inability to digest lactose in milk and dairy. Evidence is insufficient to rate it for colic or premature infant care.
Bacillus coagulans is possibly effective for constipation and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), though evidence remains preliminary. For antibiotic-associated diarrhea, athletic performance, cancer, and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, the evidence isn't established in the data we hold.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Lactase is generally well tolerated when used as directed, though a rare case of allergic reactions has been reported in someone exposed to powdered lactase in a workplace setting. Bacillus coagulans is generally well tolerated in healthy adults, but product quality and safety data vary.
Because it contains live organisms, there is theoretical concern it could cause infection in severely ill or immunocompromised patients, including those with central lines or indwelling catheters, though such reports remain uncommon in people with intact immune systems. For pregnancy and lactation, lactase is rated likely safe; for Bacillus coagulans, safety data is limited.

Theoretically, taking antibiotics with Bacillus coagulans might decrease the effectiveness of B. coagulans.
B. coagulans preparations usually contain live and active organisms. Therefore, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of the organisms. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and B. coagulans preparations by at least two hours.
