Does it work?
Moderate evidence
Inulin is possibly effective for constipation, obesity, and diabetes, based on the evidence we hold. Lactobacillus sporogenes is possibly effective for constipation, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), and possibly helpful after antibiotic use, though the evidence for antibiotic-associated diarrhea is still being studied.
For other uses listed — including nonalcoholic fatty liver disease and athletic performance — the evidence isn't established enough to rate either ingredient.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Both ingredients are generally well tolerated in healthy adults. Inulin commonly causes gas, bloating, diarrhea, constipation, and stomach cramps, especially at higher doses over 30 grams — though anaphylaxis is rare.
Lactobacillus sporogenes is also generally well tolerated, but there's limited safety data overall. A rare concern with live-organism probiotics: in people with indwelling catheters or severe immune compromise, bacteremia and sepsis have been reported.
In healthy adults with intact immune systems and no catheters, this risk is not established. Inulin is likely safe in pregnancy and lactation.

Theoretically, taking antibiotics with Bacillus coagulans might decrease the effectiveness of B. coagulans.
B. coagulans preparations usually contain live and active organisms. Therefore, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of the organisms. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and B. coagulans preparations by at least two hours.
Inulin
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, inulin might increase the risk of hypoglycemia with antidiabetes drugs.
Some clinical research shows that inulin improves glycemic control in patients with diabetes; however, it is unclear if it has hypoglycemic effects.
