Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: pumpkin seed extract in dry form. It comes in a liquid base made of alcohol, water, and glycerin.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The evidence is strongest for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) — enlarged prostate — where pumpkin seed extract is rated possibly effective. For androgenic alopecia (male-pattern hair loss), interstitial cystitis (bladder pain), intestinal parasite infection, and urinary tract infections, the evidence we hold is insufficient to rate whether it works.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Pumpkin as a food is generally well tolerated. As a concentrated seed supplement like this one, it's generally safe for most adults, though the long-term safety data isn't as robust as we'd like.
The most common side effects in trials are abdominal discomfort, diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting. Rarely, anaphylaxis (a severe allergic reaction) has been reported.
There are also two case reports of substantial hair loss occurring 1–3 weeks after consuming bitter-tasting pumpkin or squash with high cucurbitacin levels — a compound found mainly in wild varieties, not typical supplement products. During pregnancy or breastfeeding, there isn't enough safety data on concentrated pumpkin seed supplements to know either way — talk with your doctor or pharmacist for personalized advice.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
If you take lithium, check with your doctor or pharmacist before starting this product — pumpkin seed extract may increase lithium levels and require a dose adjustment (Moderate interaction).
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence behind its ingredients' uses. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Pumpkin seed extract may help with an enlarged prostate, though the evidence for other uses isn't established. If you take lithium, don't start this supplement without checking with your doctor or pharmacist first — it may raise your lithium level.
For most other people, it's generally well tolerated, but mild digestive upset can happen.

Hawaii Pharm's Pumpkin Seed Extract has one documented interaction we need to flag: it may affect how your body handles lithium.
Pumpkin is thought to work as a diuretic (a substance that increases urination), and that effect might reduce how much lithium your kidneys excrete, raising its level in your blood. If you take lithium, your dose might need adjustment.

This is a Moderate severity interaction — not an emergency, but one your doctor should know about before you start the supplement.
