What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: pumpkin seed extract. It's a concentrated form of compounds from pumpkin seeds.
There are no other active ingredients in this formulation.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The evidence for pumpkin seed extract is mixed. It's rated Possibly Effective for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) — the non-cancerous enlargement of the prostate gland that can affect urination in men.
For other uses — androgenic alopecia (male-pattern hair loss), interstitial cystitis (bladder pain), intestinal parasites, and urinary tract infections — there isn't enough reliable evidence yet to rate whether it works.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Pumpkin as a food is generally well tolerated. The concentrated seed supplements in this product are also generally well tolerated in most adults, though the safety data on concentrated extracts is less robust than on whole pumpkin.
The most common side effects reported are mild: abdominal discomfort, diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting. Rarely, anaphylaxis (a severe allergic reaction) has been reported.
There are also rare case reports of transient hair loss and severe gastrointestinal upset linked to high levels of cucurbitacin, a compound found mainly in wild or bitter-tasting pumpkins — not typical in commercial extracts. For pregnancy, there isn't enough data to know whether concentrated pumpkin seed supplements are safe; talk with your doctor or pharmacist about whether it's right for you during pregnancy.
Similarly, safety during breastfeeding isn't well studied — discuss it with your healthcare provider if you're nursing.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
The main medication to double-check before taking this product is lithium. Pumpkin seed extract may reduce how your body clears lithium, raising its levels — a Moderate-severity concern that could require a dose adjustment from your doctor or pharmacist.
The bottom line
