Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 3 of its 3 active ingredients.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

This softgel contains 3 ingredients: pumpkin seed oil as the active component, plus polyunsaturated fat and monounsaturated fat. Pumpkin seed oil is derived from the seeds of the pumpkin plant and is the primary bioactive ingredient providing the product's intended benefits.

The product also contains gelatin as an inactive ingredient to form the capsule.

Moderate evidence
Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Moderate

Some clinical evidence supports this product's ingredients for its stated purpose, but it isn't conclusive.

Why this rating?
  • The label markets this product for: prostate and urinary health.
  • We looked for evidence on: Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), Overactive bladder, urinary function, prostate function.
  • The strongest evidence on file: Pumpkin is rated "Possibly Effective" for Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) (Natural Medicines).
  • Also on file: Pumpkin is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Overactive bladder.

Pumpkin seed oil is possibly effective for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) — enlarged prostate that causes urinary symptoms in older men. For other uses — androgenic alopecia (male-pattern hair loss), interstitial cystitis (bladder pain), intestinal parasites, and urinary tract infections — we hold insufficient reliable evidence to rate whether it works.

Talk with your doctor about what the research supports for your specific concern.

Why this rating?

  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Pumpkin products eaten as food are generally well tolerated. This concentrated seed-oil supplement is also generally well tolerated in most adults, though abdominal discomfort, diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting have been reported in some people.

Rarely, anaphylaxis (a severe allergic reaction) has occurred. There are also two case reports of hair loss appearing 1–3 weeks after consuming bitter-tasting pumpkin or squash, believed to be from high levels of cucurbitacin (a natural compound in wild pumpkins).

Because safety data on concentrated pumpkin seed supplements during pregnancy and breastfeeding is limited, talk with your doctor or pharmacist before using this product if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.
