Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

This product contains one active ingredient: 500 mg of resveratrol, a compound found in grapes, berries, and red wine. Resveratrol is a polyphenol — a plant compound with antioxidant properties.

The capsule also contains hypromellose, an inert ingredient that forms the capsule shell.

Moderate evidence
Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed

This product doesn't appear to be marketed for a specific use, so we graded Resveratrol's overall clinical evidence instead.

Moderate

Some clinical evidence supports Resveratrol for:

Why this rating?
  • We looked at the product name, claims, and label statements and couldn't find a stated purpose to grade.
  • Since the label doesn't commit to one use, we graded the ingredient's overall clinical evidence instead.
  • On file: Allergic rhinitis (hay fever) — rated "Possibly Effective" (Natural Medicines).
  • On file: Obesity — rated "Possibly Effective" (Natural Medicines).

Resveratrol is possibly effective for obesity and allergic rhinitis (hay fever), meaning some evidence supports its use but more research is needed to be sure. For cardiovascular disease and high cholesterol, the evidence we have rates it as possibly ineffective — so don't count on it to replace proven treatments for those conditions.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

At typical supplement doses, resveratrol is generally well tolerated. The most common side effects from oral use are digestive: diarrhea, gastrointestinal discomfort, and loose stools.

High doses may cause more pronounced digestive upset, and long-term safety at supplement doses isn't fully established. There's also one isolated report of a skin rash that resolved after stopping the product, and rare reports of headache, fatigue, and memory loss in dialysis patients — though a direct link hasn't been proven.

The safety data advises against concentrated resveratrol supplements during pregnancy and while breastfeeding because there isn't enough information to know whether they're safe in those situations. If you're pregnant, nursing, or planning to become pregnant, talk with your doctor or pharmacist before taking this product.

Moderate identified

The most serious documented interaction for these ingredients is Moderate. Check your medications for a personalized result.

Why this rating?
  • 1 of the 1 matched ingredient can interact with medications — Resveratrol.
  • The most serious interaction on file is rated Moderate.
  • Some involve high-stakes drug classes: anticoagulant / antiplatelet drugs.
  • For scale: 823 individual medications appear in the full list. A big number alone doesn't make a product dangerous — what matters is whether YOUR medication is on it, so run yours through the interaction checker on this page.

Check with your doctor or pharmacist before combining this product with blood thinners or antiplatelet drugs (like warfarin, aspirin, or clopidogrel) — resveratrol may increase bleeding risk. You should also double-check any drugs that are broken down by your liver's CYP2C19, CYP1A2, CYP3A4, or CYP2E1 enzymes, since resveratrol may slow their clearance and raise their levels.

Use the medication checker on this page to look up your exact prescriptions.

The bottom line

Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence behind its ingredients' uses. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.

Resveratrol may be worth considering if you're looking for support with weight management or hay fever symptoms, though the evidence is still building. The main thing to watch: it slows how your liver clears many medications, especially blood thinners.

Before you start, check your current medications with your doctor or pharmacist — resveratrol can potentially raise drug levels in your bloodstream.

Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs

Resveratrol may have antiplatelet effects and may increase the risk of bleeding if used with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs.
Resveratrol seems to have antiplatelet effects.

Likelihood Possible Evidence D
Cytochrome P450 1A2 (Cyp1A2) Substrates

Theoretically, resveratrol might increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP1A2.
In vitro research shows that resveratrol can inhibit CYP1A2 enzymes. However, this interaction has not been reported in humans.

Likelihood Possible Evidence D
Cytochrome P450 2C19 (Cyp2C19) Substrates

Theoretically, resveratrol might increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP2C19.
In vitro research shows that resveratrol can inhibit CYP2C19 enzymes. However, this interaction has not been reported in humans.

Likelihood Possible Evidence D
Cytochrome P450 2E1 (Cyp2E1) Substrates

Resveratrol might increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP2E1.
In vitro research suggests that resveratrol inhibits CYP2E1 isoenzyme. Also, a pharmacokinetic study shows that taking resveratrol 500 mg daily for 10 days prior to taking a single dose of chlorzoxazone 250 mg increases the maximum concentration of chlorzoxazone by about 54%, the area under the curve of chlorzoxazone by about 72%, and the half-life of chlorzoxazone by about 35%. Chlorzoxazone is used as a probe drug for CYP2E1.

Likelihood Probable Evidence B
Cytochrome P450 3A4 (Cyp3A4) Substrates

Theoretically, resveratrol might increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4.
In vitro research shows that resveratrol can inhibit the CYP3A4 enzyme. However, clinical research shows that taking resveratrol 3000 mg daily for 8 weeks does not necessitate dose adjustments to medications metabolized by CYP3A4.

How can one product interact with so many drugs?
Resveratrol (500 mg) contains a single active ingredient, and that one ingredient can interact with many different medications on its own. We check it against each medication and show the mechanism responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
Is resveratrol safe to take while pregnant or breastfeeding?
The safety data advises against concentrated resveratrol supplements during pregnancy and breastfeeding because there isn't enough information yet. Talk with your doctor or pharmacist about whether it's right for you in these situations.
What are the most common side effects?
Digestive issues are most common: diarrhea, gastrointestinal discomfort, and loose stools. These tend to happen when taking higher doses. At typical supplement doses, resveratrol is generally well tolerated.
Does resveratrol actually help with weight loss?
Resveratrol is rated as possibly effective for obesity, meaning some evidence supports it but we need more research to be confident. It's not a proven weight-loss drug, so don't rely on it alone.
Will this help my high cholesterol?
The evidence we have rates resveratrol as possibly ineffective for high cholesterol. Stick with proven treatments your doctor recommends instead of counting on this supplement.
Can I take this with my blood thinner?
That's a question for your doctor or pharmacist. Resveratrol may increase bleeding risk when combined with blood thinners or antiplatelet drugs, so you need personalized advice based on your specific medication and health situation.
