What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: sarsaparilla extract in a 4:1 concentrated powder form. There are no other inactive ingredients listed.
Sarsaparilla is a tropical plant root traditionally used in herbal medicine, though the evidence supporting its use for specific conditions remains limited.
Does it work?
Couldn't assess
The evidence for sarsaparilla's effectiveness is insufficient for cancer, psoriasis, and rheumatoid arthritis — the conditions in our data. That doesn't mean it doesn't work; it means rigorous clinical trials haven't yet established whether it does for these uses.
If you're considering sarsaparilla for another purpose, the data we hold doesn't address it.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Sarsaparilla is likely low-risk at food levels, but human safety data for supplement doses are limited, so caution is warranted. The safety data advises against use during pregnancy and breastfeeding due to insufficient information.
There's one reported occupational concern: inhaling sarsaparilla root dust can trigger rhinitis (runny nose) and asthma symptoms, though this is unlikely with a finished powder supplement taken by mouth.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Check with your doctor or pharmacist before using this product if you take lithium or digoxin (Lanoxin). Both are Moderate-severity interactions tied to sarsaparilla's diuretic properties, which can change how much of these drugs stay in your blood.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Sarsaparilla may interest you if you're exploring traditional herbal remedies, but the evidence for its specific health benefits isn't established yet. If you take lithium or digoxin, this product isn't for you without your doctor's oversight — diuretic effects could shift your drug levels.

Sarsaparilla Extract, Powder monograph & interactionsSarsaparilla 4:1 Extract Powder by TerraVita Premium Collection Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Sarsaparilla 4:1 Extract Powder by TerraVita Premium Collection has documented interactions with lithium and digoxin (Lanoxin), a heart medication.
The concern centers on sarsaparilla's diuretic properties — it may increase how much water your body sheds. This can raise lithium levels in your blood and increase both its therapeutic effects and side effects, potentially requiring a dose adjustment.
With digoxin, the same diuretic effect could cause potassium loss, which raises the risk of heart rhythm problems.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Although these interactions are rated Moderate rather than Major, they're worth taking seriously because both lithium and digoxin have narrow therapeutic windows — small changes in blood levels can matter. Altogether, these interactions span 2 individual medications.
If you take lithium or digoxin, check with your doctor or pharmacist before adding this supplement. They can monitor your levels or adjust your dose as needed.
