We don't have effectiveness information for tansy on file. The facts we hold don't establish what this product is meant to treat or whether it works for any particular condition.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Tansy carries serious safety concerns. It contains thujone, a toxic compound — internal use is generally discouraged because of poisoning risk.
Symptoms of thujone toxicity include rapid heartbeat, irregular heartbeat, fast breathing, severe stomach upset, vomiting, dilated pupils, liver damage, kidney damage, and in severe cases, death. As few as 10 drops of tansy oil have been fatal, with death occurring within 1 to 3.5 hours of ingestion.
Tansy is likely unsafe in pregnancy — it has been used traditionally to trigger miscarriage and must not be taken when pregnant. It's also likely unsafe while breastfeeding.
If you're pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding, do not use this product.
