Terrific Zzzz Ingredients & Drug Interactions
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Terrific Zzzz against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Low disclosure
Terrific Zzzz is a softgel with 4 active ingredients: mandarin zest oil, lemon balm leaf CO2 extract, ravintsara (camphor) leaf oil, and lavender aerial oil. Each brings its own properties — mandarin for its citrus constituents, lemon balm for its traditional calming use, camphor for its warming and soothing effects, and lavender for its well-known aromatic profile.
The formula also contains inactive ingredients (extra virgin olive oil, gelatin, glycerol, water, and chlorophyll) that serve as the base and capsule material.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The evidence for these ingredients varies. Camphor is likely effective for acute pain and cough, and possibly effective for itching.
Lemon balm is possibly effective for stress and depression, and also possibly effective for cold sores. Lavender shows possibly effective evidence for menstrual cramps, but possibly ineffective evidence for cancer-related pain; evidence for its other uses — including alopecia, anxiety before procedures, and cancer fatigue — is insufficient.
Mandarin's effectiveness for cancer has insufficient reliable evidence to rate. Because this is a sleep-support product, note that the individual effectiveness data we hold does not directly address sleep quality or insomnia.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Camphor is unsafe if swallowed in quantity and is generally used only topically in small regulated amounts — this softgel delivers camphor oil, so ingestion is the route here, which carries real risk if overused. Lemon balm is generally well tolerated for short-term use in healthy adults, but long-term safety and high-dose safety aren't well studied; it's best avoided in pregnancy unless your doctor advises otherwise, and caution is needed while breastfeeding.
Lavender is well tolerated in food amounts and seems well tolerated in larger doses, but medicinal amounts shouldn't be used without your doctor's approval, and safety data in pregnancy and breastfeeding are incomplete. Mandarin fruit is safe as food, but concentrated extracts and essential oils require caution and medical guidance.
Adverse effects reported across these ingredients are generally mild — headache, nausea, dizziness, and gastrointestinal upset — though topical contact dermatitis has been linked to tangerine and lavender oils, and rare cases of serious effects like cardiac arrhythmias have been associated with high-dose camphor ingestion.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking Terrific Zzzz, check your medications against these categories: CNS depressants (sedatives, sleeping pills, anti-anxiety drugs) — lemon balm and lavender both carry Moderate interactions. Thyroid hormone replacement therapy — lemon balm has a Moderate interaction.
Hepatotoxic drugs (medications that can stress the liver) — camphor carries a Moderate interaction. Medications metabolized by your liver's CYP3A4 enzyme system — mandarin zest oil has Minor interactions.
Use the interaction checker below with your exact drug names.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Terrific Zzzz combines four ingredients with traditional sleep and relaxation use, but because it contains camphor (which is unsafe if overused orally) and lemon balm and lavender (which can add to sedative effects), you'll want to talk with your pharmacist before taking it — especially if you're on any medication for sleep, anxiety, thyroid, or liver function. This product is not suitable for pregnancy, and safety data for breastfeeding are limited.

Terrific Zzzz by Terry Naturally Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Terrific Zzzz by Terry Naturally contains four active ingredients, and together they interact with a significant number of medications.
The most serious interaction involves lemon balm, which can add to the depressant effects of sedatives, sleeping pills, and other drugs that slow your central nervous system (CNS depressants) — this is a Moderate severity concern. If you take any medication to help you sleep or calm anxiety, you'll want to check it against this product before starting.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Lemon balm also has a Moderate interaction with thyroid hormone replacement therapy; it may theoretically interfere with how your body responds to thyroid medication. Lavender, another ingredient here, shares a similar Moderate concern with CNS depressants.
Ravintsara (camphor leaf oil) carries a Moderate interaction with hepatotoxic drugs — drugs that can stress your liver — because concomitant use might raise the risk of liver damage.
Mandarin zest oil has Minor interactions documented with certain medications metabolized by your liver's CYP3A4 enzyme system, though human data suggest the effect is small. Altogether, these interactions span 995 individual medications.
Before you take Terrific Zzzz, run your exact medications through the interaction checker on this page. If you take any sedative, thyroid medication, or drug known to affect the liver, definitely check first.

Mandarin (Citrus reticulata) zest Oil
Cytochrome P450 3A4 (Cyp3A4) Substrates
In vitro, tangeretin, a constituent of tangerine, induces a 52% increase in the metabolism of midazolam by cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4). This suggests that tangeretin may stimulate CYP3A4 activity. However, in humans, drinking tangerine juice 200 mL slightly delayed the absorption, but did not affect the metabolism, of midazolam, a CYP3A4 substrate. Theoretically, tangerine juice might increase CYP3A4 activity and decrease levels of drugs metabolized by this enzyme. However, this effect is unlikely.
Some drugs metabolized by CYP3A4 include amitriptyline (Elavil), amiodarone (Cordarone), citalopram (Celexa), felodipine (Plendil), lansoprazole (Prevacid), ondansetron (Zofran), prednisone (Deltasone, Orasone), sertraline (Zoloft), sibutramine (Meridia), and many others.
Midazolam (Versed)
In vitro, tangeretin, a constituent of tangerine, appears to increase the metabolism of midazolam in human liver microsomes by up to 52%. However, in humans, drinking tangerine juice 200 mL slightly delayed the absorption, but did not affect the metabolism, of midazolam. Theoretically, tangerine juice might increase the metabolism and reduce the effects of midazolam. However, this effect is unlikely.
Ravintsara (Cinnamomum camphora) leaf oil
Hepatotoxic Drugs
Theoretically, concomitant use of camphor with other hepatotoxic drugs might increase the risk of liver damage.
There have been a few case reports of transient elevations in liver enzymes in adults after oral or topical use of camphor. There has also been one case of hepatotoxicity in an infant after topical camphor use.
Lemon Balm (Melissa officinalis) leaf CO2 extract
Cns Depressants
Theoretically, concomitant use of lemon balm might have additive effects with CNS depressant drugs.
Lemon balm seems to have CNS depressant activity in animals and in humans.
Thyroid Hormone
Theoretically, lemon balm might interfere with thyroid hormone replacement therapy.
In vitro, constituents of lemon balm extract bind to thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH), preventing TSH receptor-binding and leading to the inhibition of TSH-stimulated adenylate cyclase activity. In animals, lemon balm extract has been shown to decrease levels of circulating TSH and inhibit thyroid secretion.
Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) aerial Oil
Cns Depressants
Theoretically, lavender might potentiate the therapeutic effects and adverse effects of CNS depressants.
Laboratory research suggests that lavender has sedative effects. However, clinical studies in patients taking oral lavender oil (Silexan) 160 mg for 10 weeks or taking lavender flower powder 1 gram daily for 2 months have not reported side effects of drowsiness, sedation, or sleepiness. There is still some concern that higher doses or different preparations of lavender might have additive effects with CNS depressant medications.
