What’s inside

Low disclosure
Ingredient Transparency · database check
Low

Most active ingredients don't disclose an individual amount — you can't tell how much of each you're getting.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 0 of its 3 active ingredients.
  • “Proprietary Blend” is a proprietary blend — the label gives one combined amount (900 mg) without saying how much of each component you get.

This product has 3 active ingredients. The primary ones are Ajuga turkestanica Extract (also called turkesterone) and Tongkat Ali Root Extract, both botanical compounds traditionally used to support physical performance and vitality.

The formula also contains Colostrum, a nutrient-rich secretion from early milk. The only inactive ingredient listed is methylcellulose, a binder that holds the capsule together.

Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Leans against

The strongest graded evidence we hold for the stated purpose leans against a benefit.

Why this rating?
  • The label markets this product for: vitality and athletic performance.
  • We looked for evidence on: Athletic performance, Muscle strength, Energy, Endurance, Physical performance, Exercise capacity.
  • The closest evidence on file: Eurycoma Longifolia is rated "Possibly Ineffective" for Athletic performance (Natural Medicines).
  • Also on file: Eurycoma Longifolia is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Muscle strength.

Tongkat Ali has been studied for sexual desire and is rated possibly effective for that use. For athletic performance, the evidence doesn't support its use — it's rated possibly ineffective.

For back pain, osteoporosis, and diabetes, we don't have enough reliable evidence to make a rating. We hold no effectiveness data for the turkesterone or colostrum in this product.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 2 of the 2 matched ingredients.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 2 of 2.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 2 of 2.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Tongkat Ali is generally well tolerated in short-term studies, but long-term safety isn't well established, and the quality of supplements can vary. Because this ingredient may increase testosterone levels, it should be avoided during pregnancy and breastfeeding — there isn't enough safety data for either stage.

If testosterone is raised beyond normal, you could experience acne, insulin resistance, liver strain, or other testosterone-related effects. Talk with your doctor or pharmacist if you have concerns about hormonal effects or are pregnant or nursing.

The most serious documented interaction for these ingredients is Moderate. Check your medications for a personalized result.

Why this rating?
  • 1 of the 2 matched ingredients can interact with medications — Eurycoma Longifolia.
  • The most serious interaction on file is rated Moderate.
  • For scale: 248 individual medications appear in the full list. A big number alone doesn't make a product dangerous — what matters is whether YOUR medication is on it, so run yours through the interaction checker on this page.

If you're on propranolol or any beta-blocker, flag it — this product may reduce its effectiveness. Also double-check any medications metabolized by liver enzymes (CYP1A2, CYP2C19, CYP2A6) and testosterone-based treatments before taking it.

Propranolol (Inderal)

Eurycoma longifolia can reduce the levels and clinical effects of propranolol.
A small clinical study in healthy persons shows that taking a single dose of a water-based Eurycoma longifolia extract 200 mg, in combination with a single dose of propranolol 80 mg, reduces the propranolol area under the curve (AUC) by 29%, reduces the peak concentration by 42%, and increases time to peak concentration by 86% when compared with control. Since the elimination half-life of propranolol did not change, it seems that Eurycoma longifolia alters the kinetics of propranolol by decreasing its absorption in the gut, and not by altering its metabolism. It is not known if separating administration will prevent this interaction.

Likelihood Probable Evidence A
Cytochrome P450 1A2 (Cyp1A2) Substrates

Theoretically, Eurycoma longifolia might increase levels CYP1A2 substrates.
In vitro research suggests that methanolic Eurycoma longifolia root extract weakly inhibits CYP1A2 enzymes. This effect has not been reported in humans.

Likelihood Possible Evidence D
Cytochrome P450 2A6 (Cyp2A6) Substrates

Theoretically, Eurycoma longifolia might increase levels of CYP2A6 substrates.
In vitro research suggests that methanolic Eurycoma longifolia root extract weakly inhibits CYP2A6 enzymes. This effect has not been reported in humans.

Likelihood Possible Evidence D
Cytochrome P450 2C19 (Cyp2C19) Substrates

Theoretically, Eurycoma longifolia might increase levels of CYP2C19 substrates.
In vitro research suggests that methanolic Eurycoma longifolia root extract weakly inhibits CYP2C19 enzymes. This effect has not been reported in humans.

Likelihood Possible Evidence D
Testosterone

Theoretically, Eurycoma longifolia may further increase levels of testosterone.
A clinical study in aging males with testosterone levels below 300 ng/dL shows that taking a specific water extract of Eurycoma longifolia roots (Physta; Biotropics Malaysia) 100-200 mg daily with breakfast for 12 weeks increases total testosterone levels by 8% to 11% when compared with placebo. It is unclear whether this increase would occur in individuals with normal testosterone levels.

Turkesterone & Tongkat Ali by HUMANX: Common Questions

Does Turkesterone & Tongkat Ali by HUMANX interact with any medications?
Yes. Based on its ingredients, Turkesterone & Tongkat Ali has a known interaction with 248 medications. Use the checker to see how it interacts with a specific drug.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
Turkesterone & Tongkat Ali contains 3 active ingredients, and an interaction can come from any of them. We check every ingredient, combine the results into one list per medication, and show which ingredient and mechanism is responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
What's turkesterone, and what's it supposed to do?
Turkesterone is a compound from Ajuga turkestanica, a plant used traditionally for athletic performance and vitality. We don't have effectiveness data on file for it in this product.
Can I take this while pregnant or breastfeeding?
No. The safety data isn't there for pregnancy, and because Tongkat Ali may raise testosterone levels (which could have hormonal effects), it's best to avoid it. Talk with your doctor if you're pregnant or nursing and considering any supplement.
Does Tongkat Ali actually work for sexual function?
It's rated possibly effective for sexual desire based on available studies. That means there's some supporting evidence, but it's not as strong as we'd like.
Will this help my athletic performance?
Tongkat Ali is rated possibly ineffective for athletic performance, so the evidence doesn't really back that use. Turkesterone's effectiveness in this product isn't established in our data.
Can this raise my testosterone too high?
Yes — Tongkat Ali can increase testosterone levels. If your testosterone goes beyond normal range, you could get acne, insulin resistance, liver strain, or other effects. If you're on testosterone therapy, this is especially important to discuss with your doctor first.
What's colostrum, and why is it in here?
Colostrum is an immune-rich nutrient secretion from early milk, traditionally used for general wellness. We don't have interaction or effectiveness data on file for it.
