Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

This product contains one active ingredient: Yarrow Flower Extract, Dry. The liquid is suspended in alcohol, water, and glycerin.

Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Not assessable

This is a single-ingredient Yarrow product and its label doesn't state a use — see Yarrow's own graded uses on its monograph.

Why this rating?
  • We looked at the product name, claims, and label statements and couldn't find a stated purpose to grade.

The evidence isn't established in the data we hold for yarrow's effectiveness. Clinical trials have not produced reliable evidence for tonsillitis, wound healing, atopic dermatitis (eczema), dysmenorrhea (period pain), or vaginal yeast infection.

That doesn't mean it doesn't work — it means we don't have solid data to confirm it yet.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Yarrow is generally well tolerated by mouth and when applied to the skin in short-term use, though human safety data are limited overall. Allergic reactions can occur, and some people develop dermatitis (skin irritation) or hives when it touches their skin, especially due to compounds called sesquiterpene lactones.

Topical application can also cause sun-sensitivity reactions in some people. Avoid yarrow in pregnancy — it's traditionally been avoided because it may affect the uterus.

Do not use while breastfeeding either, as safety information is insufficient.

The most serious documented interaction for these ingredients is Moderate. Check your medications for a personalized result.

Why this rating?
  • 1 of the 1 matched ingredient can interact with medications — Yarrow.
  • The most serious interaction on file is rated Moderate.
  • Some involve high-stakes drug classes: lithium.
  • For scale: 1 individual medications appear in the full list. A big number alone doesn't make a product dangerous — what matters is whether YOUR medication is on it, so run yours through the interaction checker on this page.

If you take lithium, check with your pharmacist before using this product — yarrow may increase lithium levels and side effects. No other medication interactions are documented in our data for the ingredients we could check.

The bottom line

Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.

Yarrow may be worth considering for short-term use if you're looking for traditional support, but clinical evidence is limited. If you take lithium, check with your pharmacist first — this product could raise your lithium levels.

Because allergic reactions and skin irritation are possible, and it's not safe in pregnancy or while nursing, talk to your pharmacist or doctor before starting.

Yarrow by Hawaii Pharm: Common Questions

Does Yarrow by Hawaii Pharm interact with any medications?
Yes. Based on its ingredients, Yarrow has a known interaction with 1 medication. Use the checker to see how it interacts with a specific drug.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
Yarrow contains a single active ingredient, and that one ingredient can interact with many different medications on its own. We check it against each medication and show the mechanism responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
Can I use this if I'm pregnant or breastfeeding?
No. Yarrow should be avoided in pregnancy because it may affect the uterus, and it's best avoided while breastfeeding due to insufficient safety information. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist about safer options.
What are the most common side effects?
When taken by mouth or applied vaginally, yarrow is generally well tolerated. Topically on skin, the main concern is dermatitis (irritation), allergic reactions, hives, or sun-sensitivity reactions in susceptible people. One trial participant did report worsened facial acne with vaginal use.
Does this actually work for anything?
The evidence isn't established yet in reliable clinical trials. We don't have solid data to confirm yarrow works for tonsillitis, wound healing, eczema, period pain, or yeast infection — though people have used it traditionally for these.
Is it safe to use long-term?
Yarrow is typically used short-term, and human safety data for longer use are limited. Stick to short-term use and talk to your pharmacist if you're thinking about using it regularly.
Can I apply this to my skin, or should I only take it by mouth?
This is a liquid extract made for oral use. Topical application carries a higher risk of skin reactions — dermatitis, hives, and sun sensitivity — so follow the product label for how to use it safely.
