When taken by mouth or applied in the vagina, yarrow is generally well tolerated. However, the human safety data are limited.

Topically (on the skin), it's more of a concern — yarrow can cause dermatitis, allergic reactions, or hives in some people because of compounds called sesquiterpene lactones. It's also been reported to cause reactions triggered by sunlight and airway symptoms in sensitive individuals.

One person in a trial developed worse acne after vaginal use. During pregnancy, the safety data advise against it because yarrow may affect the uterus.

While breastfeeding, there isn't enough safety information, so it's best avoided. Talk with your doctor or pharmacist if you're pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding before using this product.
