What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: bamboo (Bambusa tuldoides) shavings extract in a dried form. Bamboo has a long history in traditional use, particularly in Asian cultures.
The product is alcohol-free and made with glycerin and water as inactive ingredients.
Does it work?
Couldn't assess
The evidence for bamboo in supporting dental health is insufficient — we don't have reliable data showing it works for that purpose. If you're considering this product for another reason, that claim isn't covered in the data we hold.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Cooked bamboo shoots are eaten safely as food, but the safety of concentrated bamboo supplements hasn't been well studied. Raw bamboo shoots can be toxic.
Bamboo shoots contain cyanide compounds that are normally broken down during cooking or processing, though there's one documented case of cyanide poisoning linked to bamboo shoot pickling water. Rarely, topical contact with bamboo has caused skin irritation in one reported case.
During pregnancy, the safety data isn't adequate, so concentrated forms should be avoided. While breastfeeding, safety is unknown — avoid concentrated extracts unless your doctor has cleared it.
Talk with your doctor or pharmacist about whether this product is right for you in these situations.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Check before starting if you take antithyroid drugs (used for overactive thyroid). Long-term bamboo use may increase their effects and raise your risk of an underactive thyroid.
Your doctor or pharmacist can review your specific medication and advise whether this product is safe for you.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
This bamboo extract product is most important to check if you take antithyroid medications for an overactive thyroid. Because supplement safety data on bamboo is limited and it's not established to help with dental health, have a conversation with your doctor or pharmacist about whether it fits your needs.
If you're pregnant, breastfeeding, or taking thyroid medication, that conversation is essential before you start.
