Clinical
Fluoride is used to prevent tooth decay. It is taken up by teeth and helps to strengthen teeth, resist acid, and block the cavity-forming action of bacteria. Fluoride usually is prescribed for children and adults whose homes have water that is not fluoridated (already has fluoride added). This medication is sometimes prescribed for other uses; ask your doctor or pharmacist for more information.
Read the full MedlinePlus article ↗This is an over-the-counter dental kit containing a sodium fluoride toothpaste and toothbrush. Sodium fluoride is a fluoride compound commonly used in toothpastes to help strengthen tooth enamel and reduce cavity formation. The kit is applied topically to the teeth during brushing as part of routine oral hygiene. This product is regulated under the FDA's over-the-counter monograph rules for anticavity toothpastes rather than as an individually approved application.
