Clinical
Bisacodyl is used on a short-term basis to treat constipation. It also is used to empty the bowels before surgery and certain medical procedures. Bisacodyl is in a class of medications called stimulant laxatives. It works by increasing activity of the intestines to cause a bowel movement.
Read the full MedlinePlus article ↗- It relieves occasional constipation and irregularity. The Fleet enema is also used for fecal impaction and to clear residue after a barium test. It is meant for short-term use.
- It depends on the form. Tablets usually work in 6 to 12 hours. Suppositories usually work in 15 minutes to 1 hour. The Fleet enema usually works in 5 to 20 minutes.
- Not right away. Wait at least 1 hour after an antacid or milk before taking tablets. Swallow tablets whole with water and do not chew or crush them.

🎯 Indications and Usage ▾
Uses for temporary relief of occasional constipation and irregularity this product generally produces bowel movement in 6 to 12 hours
⏱️ Dosage and Administration ▾
Directions take with a glass of water Adults and children 12 years of age and over: 1 to 3 tablets in a single dose, once daily Children 6 to under 12 years of age: take 1 tablet once daily Children under 6 years of age: consult a doctor
⚠️ Warnings ▾
Warnings Do not use if you cannot swallow without chewing Ask a doctor before use if you have abdominal pain, nausea or vomiting a sudden change in bowel habits that lasts more than 2 weeks When using this product do not chew or crush tablet(s) do not use within 1 hour after taking an antacid or milk you may have stomach discomfort, faintness and cramps Stop use and ask a doctor if you have rectal bleeding or fail to have a bowel movement after use of a laxative. These could be signs of a serious condition. you need to use a laxative for more than 1 week If pregnant or breast-feeding, ask a health professional before use.
Keep out of reach of children. In case of overdose, get medical help or contact a Poison Control Center (1-800-222-1222) right away.
📦 Storage and Handling ▾
Other information store between 68º to 77ºF (20º to 25ºC) do not use if blister unit is broken or torn

📄 Do Not Use ▾
Do not use if you cannot swallow without chewing
📄 Ask a Doctor Before Use If ▾
Ask a doctor before use if you have abdominal pain, nausea or vomiting a sudden change in bowel habits that lasts more than 2 weeks
📄 When Using This Product ▾
When using this product do not chew or crush tablet(s) do not use within 1 hour after taking an antacid or milk you may have stomach discomfort, faintness and cramps
📄 Stop Use and Ask a Doctor If ▾
Stop use and ask a doctor if you have rectal bleeding or fail to have a bowel movement after use of a laxative. These could be signs of a serious condition. you need to use a laxative for more than 1 week
🤰 If Pregnant or Breast-Feeding ▾
If pregnant or breast-feeding, ask a health professional before use.
📄 Keep Out of Reach of Children ▾
Keep out of reach of children. In case of overdose, get medical help or contact a Poison Control Center (1-800-222-1222) right away.
