Clinical
This product is an over-the-counter inhalant smelling salt containing 15 percent ammonia. Ammonia vapors are typically inhaled as a respiratory stimulant, commonly used to increase alertness or counteract lightheadedness or fainting. The product is marketed under FDA's OTC monograph rules for this drug category rather than through individual product approval. Smelling salts work by triggering a reflex response when inhaled.
