Answer
Thanks for reaching out to us! Doxycycline is perfectly safe to take with NyQuil. There is no known interaction between them.
This applies to all the different NyQuil products, which include:
- NyQuil
- NyQuil Severe
- NyQuil Cough DM + Congestion
- NyQuil VapoCool
These NyQuil products are all safe to take with doxycycline and represent a good over-the-counter cough/cold medication to help relieve some of the symptoms you may be experiencing.
NyQuil Products With Doxycycline
All NyQuil products contain a combination of medications. For example, 'original' NyQuil contains:
- Acetaminophen
- Dextromethorphan
- Doxylamine
Acetaminophen is an analgesic and fever reducer. It is the active ingredient in 'Tylenol'.
Dextromethorphan is a cough suppressant and helps to reduce the frequency and severity of coughing.
Doxylamine is a sedating antihistamine, similar to Benadryl (diphenhydramine). It can help to dry up mucus and post-nasal drip, while also helping you sleep due to its sedative effect.
A similar product, NyQuil 'Severe' adds on the nasal decongestant phenylephrine.
As mentioned, there are no known interactions between NyQuil products and doxycycline. In fact, NyQuil is safe to take with most antibiotics.
If you have any other questions about NyQuil and a specific antibiotic, let us know! We'll be happy to answer.
