Concomitant use of escitalopram (a CYP2C19 substrate)1 with a CYP2C19 inhibitor may increase escitalopram exposure. In a study of 407 blood samples from 330 patients compared with matched controls, coadministration of escitalopram with CYP2C19 inhibitors, omeprazole or esomeprazole increased the exposure of escitalopram about 2-fold. If escitalopram and a CYP2C19 inhibitor are used concomitantly, consider a dosage reduction of escitalopram 2.

The concentration/dosage ratio of escitalopram was significantly higher with coadministration (+93.9% with omeprazole and +81.8% increase with esomeprazole).
