What happens

False positive secretin stimulation test results

Interaction Deep Dive

The concomitant use of a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) may cause a hyperresponse to secretin stimulation of gastrin secretion, falsely suggesting gastrinoma. Discontinue the PPI in sufficient time to allow serum gastrin concentration to return to baseline before administering secretin human to aid in the diagnosis of gastrinoma2. Temporarily stop omeprazole treatment at least 14 days before assessing to allow gastrin levels to return to baseline 1.
