What happens
Increased risk of serotonin syndrome and an increased risk of CNS depression
Interaction Deep Dive
Exert caution when carBAMazepine (serotonergic drug) is coadministered with morphine (opioids and CNS depressant) because of its primary CNS effect, such as an increased risk of respiratory depression, profound sedation, hypotension, and syncope7. Concomitant use may also result in serotonin syndrome. If concomitant use is needed, carefully observe the patient, particularly during treatment initiation and dose adjustments. Discontinue morphine if serotonin syndrome is suspected 514326.
