Here's the concern with combining asarabacca and your Diovan HCT (valsartan plus hydrochlorothiazide). This isn't about one changing how the other is broken down. The real worry is that asarabacca is often tainted with aristolochic acid, a compound the FDA considers unsafe because it can seriously harm the kidneys.

Your blood pressure combo already leans on healthy kidneys. Valsartan changes blood flow inside the kidney, and the water pill (hydrochlorothiazide) can leave you a bit dehydrated. Stack a kidney-damaging herb on top, and you could push toward kidney injury, dizziness, or off-balance potassium and sodium. Honestly, I'd steer clear of asarabacca entirely, but please talk with your pharmacist or doctor before mixing the two.
