Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
ANTACIDS
Why this applies to Aluminum Hydroxide
Aluminum Hydroxide falls under ANTACIDS — the group Betaine Hydrochloride interacts with.
In human research, betaine hydrochloride increases stomach acidity. Antacids are taken to decrease stomach acidity. Theoretically, taking betaine hydrochloride along with antacids might decrease the effects of the antacids.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the simple version: aluminum hydroxide works by soothing stomach acid, while betaine hydrochloride does the opposite and actually adds acid to your stomach. So if you take them close together, the betaine could partly cancel out the relief you're hoping to get from the antacid. You might notice your heartburn or sour stomach isn't easing up the way it normally would.
Honestly, taking these two together works against each other, so most people wouldn't combine them on purpose. This is a minor concern based mostly on anecdotal reports, not strong studies, so it's not dangerous. Still, if you're using both, check with your pharmacist or doctor so you're not undoing your own treatment.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Aluminum Hydroxide page
“An antacid sounds harmless, and that is exactly why the supplement interactions with aluminum hydroxide (Amphojel, Gaviscon) deserve real attention before you combine it with much of anything. The most serious entry is activated charcoal, which can soak up many medications in the gut and sharply cut how much of them your body actually…”
