Betaine Hydrochloride + Fluvoxamine
Fluvoxamine brand name: Luvox.
We found no known interaction between Betaine Hydrochloride and Fluvoxamine in our sources. Absence of a documented interaction is not the same as proven safety, and does not guarantee one does not exist. Do not start, stop, or change a medication or supplement based on this page; confirm with your pharmacist or doctor first.
Betaine Hydrochloride and Fluvoxamine
We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.
No Known Interaction Found
We did not find a documented interaction between Fluvoxamine and Betaine Hydrochloride in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.
If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.
Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

Why No Interaction Is Listed for Fluvoxamine
Interactions in our licensed database are recorded against drug classes, not just single drug names. Fluvoxamine is filed under 14 classifications — including antidepressant drugs, cytochrome p450 2c19 (cyp2c19) inhibitors, cytochrome p450 2c9 (cyp2c9) inhibitors. Betaine Hydrochloride has documented interactions with 3 drug classes — the most serious being antacids (minor), h2-blockers (minor) and proton pump inhibitors (ppis) (minor) — and none of Fluvoxamine’s classifications are among them.
Classification data comes from our licensed Natural Medicines dataset. A medication can belong to classes beyond those recorded there, so this describes how the check was run — it is not a safety guarantee.
Betaine Hydrochloride Does Interact With Other Medications

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Fluvoxamine page
“Fluvoxamine (Luvox), an SSRI used for OCD and depression, carries an interaction list that deserves genuinely careful reading. Two entries matter most: lithium, which alongside a serotonin-raising drug like fluvoxamine can tip toward serotonin syndrome, a dangerous excess of serotonin, and activated charcoal, which can soak up the medi…”

About Betaine Hydrochloride
What is Betaine Hydrochloride?
- Low stomach acid (hypochlorhydria)
- Bloating and gas
- Indigestion
- Heartburn or reflux symptoms
- Aiding protein digestion
Betaine hydrochloride is a supplement used to temporarily increase stomach acid in people who may have low acid levels. Evidence for its benefits is limited and mostly based on tradition rather than strong clinical trials. It is not appropriate for everyone, and you should talk with a pharmacist or doctor before using it—especially if you have ulcers, take acid-reducing drugs, or have reflux.
Not applicable (synthetically produced compound; betaine also occurs naturally in beets and other plants) · Capsules, tablets (often combined with pepsin)
An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether Betaine Hydrochloride is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our Betaine Hydrochloride record says about it on its own.
Betaine Hydrochloride: dosing
There is no well-established standard dose for betaine hydrochloride. It is usually taken with meals. Do not increase the dose on your own. Because of the risk of stomach irritation, more is not better—start low and use it only under guidance.

About Fluvoxamine
What Is Fluvoxamine Used For?
Brand name: Luvox
Both fluvoxamine maleate tablets and Fluvoxamine Maleate extended-release capsules are approved to treat obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) — a condition marked by unwanted, recurring thoughts (obsessions) and/or repetitive behaviors (compulsions) that cause significant distress or interfere with daily life.
Fluvoxamine maleate tablets are approved for adults and for children and adolescents ages 8 to 17. Fluvoxamine Maleate extended-release capsules are approved for adults with OCD; their use in pediatric patients naive to fluvoxamine requires special prescriber consideration regarding the lowest available dose.

Fluvoxamine Is Linked to Lower Levels of One Nutrient
Natural Medicines records Fluvoxamine as a medicine that can lower these. This is not an interaction with Betaine Hydrochloride — it is a separate effect of the medicine, and it is a reason some people are advised to supplement rather than to avoid one:
