Black Raspberry and Atorvastatin

We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.

No Known Interaction Found

We did not find a documented interaction between Atorvastatin and Black Raspberry in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.

Worth understanding: our licensed dataset holds no drug-interaction record for Black Raspberry at all — not against Atorvastatin, and not against any other medication we track. This verdict therefore rests on the absence of any recorded data, not on research that looked at this combination and found nothing. We cannot rule an interaction out.

If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.

Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

These are real questions from readers, answered by the pharmacists at HelloPharmacist — written by a person, not generated from a database. See Every Supplement That Interacts With Atorvastatin

This page covers Black Raspberry only. If you take other supplements — a multivitamin, a sleep aid, something for joints — the Atorvastatin page lists 181 supplements it has a documented interaction with, worst first, each one explained.

The most serious there right now: Activated Charcoal (major), Apple (major), Beer (major), Grapefruit (major) and Green Tea (major).

By severity: 9 major · 136 moderate · 36 minor.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Atorvastatin page

“Grapefruit is the entry to understand first. Atorvastatin (Atorvaliq) is cleared by an enzyme called CYP3A4, and grapefruit blocks that enzyme, letting statin levels climb along with the risk of side effects like muscle pain.”

About Black Raspberry

What is Black Raspberry?

Black Raspberry
  • Antioxidant support
  • Heart health
  • Oral and gum health
  • Cancer prevention (under study)
  • Inflammation

Black raspberry is a nutrient-rich fruit packed with antioxidants like anthocyanins and ellagic acid, and as a food it is generally safe and healthy. Some early research explores it for cancer prevention, oral health, and heart health, but the evidence is preliminary and far from proven. Enjoy it as part of a balanced diet, and talk to your pharmacist or doctor before using concentrated supplements.

Rubus occidentalis · Rosaceae · Fruit (berries); sometimes leaves and seeds · Fresh or frozen berries, juice, powder, capsules, extracts, lozenges, gels

An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether Black Raspberry is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our Black Raspberry record says about it on its own.

Black Raspberry: dosing

There is no official or standardized dose of black raspberry for any health condition. As a food, you can simply enjoy the fresh or frozen berries. For supplements, juices, and powders, the amount varies widely between products. The best approach is to follow the directions on the product label and not exceed the recommended amount.

About Atorvastatin

What Is Atorvastatin Used For?

Brand name: Atorvaliq

Atorvastatin is used alongside a healthy diet to lower LDL ("bad") cholesterol, triglycerides (blood fats), and other harmful lipids, while raising HDL ("good") cholesterol. It treats primary hyperlipidemia (high cholesterol), mixed dyslipidemia (mixed abnormal blood fats), hypertriglyceridemia (high triglycerides), and inherited conditions such as heterozygous and homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia — including in children aged 10 and older.

Beyond cholesterol control, atorvastatin is used to reduce the risk of heart attack, stroke, revascularization procedures, and angina (chest pain) in adults with coronary heart disease or multiple risk factors for it — including adults with type 2 diabetes who have risk factors for heart disease even without a confirmed heart disease diagnosis.
