Blackberry and Clonidine

We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.

No Known Interaction Found

We did not find a documented interaction between Clonidine and Blackberry in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.

Worth understanding: our licensed dataset holds no drug-interaction record for Blackberry at all — not against Clonidine, and not against any other medication we track. This verdict therefore rests on the absence of any recorded data, not on research that looked at this combination and found nothing. We cannot rule an interaction out.

If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.

Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

Blackberry safety at a glance

Blackberry overall Generally safe The fruit is safe as a food; medicinal leaf and root preparations are likely safe in typical amounts but less studied.
Pregnancy Use caution The berry as food is fine, but concentrated leaf or root supplements lack safety data, so use caution.
Breastfeeding Use caution Eating the fruit is fine, but there is not enough information on medicinal supplements while nursing.

Safety guidance is general; always confirm with your pharmacist or doctor for your situation.

What Clonidine’s Own FDA Label Lists

This is not an interaction — none of it involves Blackberry. These are the most notable effects listed in the ADVERSE REACTIONS section of Clonidine’s own FDA label, for the medication by itself. Knowing the drug’s own list makes it easier to work out the likely cause if something new turns up while you take both. 4 of them are worth acting on rather than waiting out — marked below.

  • A slow heartbeat Worth acting on
  • Hallucinations Worth acting on
  • Raised blood pressure Worth acting on mentioned in 5.7% of FDA reports for Clonidine
  • An allergic reaction Worth acting on
  • Vivid dreams or nightmares
  • Mood changes or irritability
  • Tremor or shakiness
  • A stuffy or runny nose
  • Dry mouth
  • A fast or pounding heartbeat

Showing the 10 most notable of 21 label-listed effects — ranked by how unusual each one is across medicines generally, with serious effects weighted up.

From the ADVERSE REACTIONS section of the FDA label for Clonidine. Read the label on DailyMed › Where a percentage is shown, it is the share of 57,112 voluntary FDA FAERS reports for Clonidine that mention that effect — a reporting proportion, not an incidence rate and not evidence the drug caused it. Blackberry’s licensed record lists no adverse effects our clinical vocabulary could match, so there is no Blackberry side to compare — that is a limit of the record, not a statement that Blackberry has no side effects.

These are real questions from readers, answered by the pharmacists at HelloPharmacist — written by a person, not generated from a database. See Every Supplement That Interacts With Clonidine

This page covers Blackberry only. If you take other supplements — a multivitamin, a sleep aid, something for joints — the Clonidine page lists 138 supplements it has a documented interaction with, worst first, each one explained.

The most serious there right now: Activated Charcoal (major), American Hellebore (major), American Mistletoe (major), Tyramine (major) and Adrafinil (moderate).

By severity: 4 major · 113 moderate · 21 minor.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Clonidine page

“American hellebore is the ingredient I would want a clonidine (Catapres) patient to know about first. Its alkaloids lower blood pressure even in small doses and slow the heart, both things clonidine already does, so the combination can drop someone dangerously low.”

Where does our data come from?
  • Source: the Natural Medicines (TRC Healthcare) clinical database — the evidence-graded professional reference for herb & supplement interactions. Blackberry is not yet covered by that licensed database, so its write-up cites publicly available medical sources directly (see the references below).
  • Citation library: 103,510 references behind our interaction content, 65,311 of them resolved to verified PubMed/DOI sources. See every Blackberry reference on this page ↓
  • Freshness: we automatically re-check this combination every week — this pair was last verified September 20, 2026. The Blackberry and Clonidine records this page draws on were last updated June 22, 2026.
  • What “no known interaction” means: no documented interaction in the sources above — not a guarantee of safety. Supplements are studied far less than prescription drugs, so we say exactly what the evidence supports, and nothing more.

About Blackberry

What is Blackberry?

  • Diarrhea
  • Sore throat and mouth rinse
  • General antioxidant support
  • Digestive upset
  • Source of vitamins and fiber

Blackberry is a common edible berry that is safe and nutritious as a food, rich in vitamin C, fiber, and antioxidant plant compounds. The leaves and root have a long history of traditional use for diarrhea and sore throat, but high-quality human studies on these medicinal uses are limited. Enjoy the fruit freely, but talk to your pharmacist or doctor before using concentrated leaf or root supplements.

Rubus fruticosus · Rosaceae · Fruit, leaves, and root · Fresh or frozen fruit, juice, tea (from dried leaves), capsules, extracts

An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether Blackberry is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our Blackberry record says about it on its own.

Blackberry: dosing

There is no official standardized dose for blackberry as a supplement. As a food, blackberries can be eaten freely as part of a balanced diet. For leaf teas or extracts, traditional use varies and a reliable evidence-based dose has not been established. If you choose to use a blackberry supplement, follow the directions on the product label and do not exceed the recommended amount.
