Divi-divi and Warfarin Sodium

We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.

No Known Interaction Found

We did not find a documented interaction between Warfarin Sodium and Divi-divi in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.

Worth understanding: our licensed dataset holds no drug-interaction record for Divi-divi at all — not against Warfarin Sodium, and not against any other medication we track. This verdict therefore rests on the absence of any recorded data, not on research that looked at this combination and found nothing. We cannot rule an interaction out.

If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.

Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

From the ADVERSE REACTIONS section of the FDA label for Warfarin Sodium. Read the label on DailyMed › Where a percentage is shown, it is the share of 45,853 voluntary FDA FAERS reports for Warfarin Sodium that mention that effect — a reporting proportion, not an incidence rate and not evidence the drug caused it. Divi-divi’s licensed record lists no adverse effects our clinical vocabulary could match, so there is no Divi-divi side to compare — that is a limit of the record, not a statement that Divi-divi has no side effects.

About Divi-divi

What is Divi-divi?

  • Source of tannins for tanning leather
  • Traditional astringent for skin
  • Mouth and throat irritation (traditional gargles)
  • Wound and sore care (folk use)
  • Mild digestive complaints (folk use)

Divi-divi is a tropical tree whose tannin-rich seed pods have long been used in leather tanning and in traditional folk remedies, mostly as an astringent. There is very little modern human research to support any health benefit, so it should not be relied on to treat any medical condition. If you are considering it, talk with a pharmacist or doctor first.

Caesalpinia coriaria · Fabaceae · Seed pods (and sometimes bark) · Powdered pod extract, decoctions, and traditional topical preparations

About Warfarin

What Is Warfarin Used For?

Brand names: Coumadin, Panwarfin, Sofarin

Warfarin sodium tablets and Jantoven tablets are both used to prevent and treat venous thrombosis (blood clots in the veins) and pulmonary embolism (a clot in the lungs). They are also used to prevent clot-related complications in people with atrial fibrillation (an irregular heart rhythm) or who have had a heart valve replaced.

In people who have had a heart attack, warfarin is used to reduce the risk of death, another heart attack, stroke, or other clotting events. It does not dissolve an existing clot, but it helps prevent the clot from growing and stops new dangerous clots from forming.
