Ear Candling and Oxazepam

We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.

No Known Interaction Found

We did not find a documented interaction between Oxazepam and Ear Candling in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — research on Ear Candling alongside specific medications may be limited.

Worth understanding: our licensed dataset holds no drug-interaction record for Ear Candling at all — not against Oxazepam, and not against any other medication we track. This verdict therefore rests on the absence of any recorded data, not on research that looked at this combination and found nothing. We cannot rule an interaction out.

Ear Candling is a treatment rather than something you take. Tell whoever provides it which medicines you use, and ask your prescriber whether it is appropriate for your health and treatment. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.

Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

Everything above comes from the Natural Medicines adverse-effect record for Ear Candling — expand a row for the licensed statement it rests on. We read the ADVERSE REACTIONS section of Oxazepam’s FDA label too, and the two lists don’t meaningfully overlap — which is why no Oxazepam column appears here.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Oxazepam page

“The single biggest hazard with oxazepam (Serax), a benzodiazepine prescribed for anxiety and alcohol withdrawal, is stacked sedation, and this is a list to treat with genuine respect. About Ear Candling

What is Ear Candling?

  • Removing earwax
  • Ear cleaning
  • Relieving sinus pressure
  • Reducing ear pain or 'pressure'
  • General relaxation or 'detox' rituals

Ear candling is a practice where a hollow, cone-shaped candle is placed in the ear and lit, based on the claim that it draws out earwax or 'toxins.' There is no good scientific evidence that it works, and health authorities like the FDA warn it can cause serious harm such as burns, ear canal blockage, and eardrum injury. It is not recommended — safer, proven options for earwax exist.

Hollow cloth or paper cone coated in wax (not a plant or supplement) · Hollow tapered candles (also called ear cones), often made of cotton or linen soaked in beeswax or paraffin

An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether Ear Candling is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our Ear Candling record says about it on its own.

Ear Candling: dosing

There is no safe or recommended 'dose' for ear candling because the practice itself is not supported by evidence and can cause harm. Avoid putting cotton swabs or candles into your ear canal.
