Emu Oil and Norgestrel

We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.

No Known Interaction Found

We did not find a documented interaction between Norgestrel and Emu Oil in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.

Worth understanding: our licensed dataset holds no drug-interaction record for Emu Oil at all — not against Norgestrel, and not against any other medication we track. This verdict therefore rests on the absence of any recorded data, not on research that looked at this combination and found nothing. We cannot rule an interaction out.

If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.

Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

Emu Oil safety at a glance

Emu Oil overall Use caution Generally well tolerated on the skin, but human evidence is limited and quality varies between products.
Pregnancy Use caution Not enough reliable safety data; topical use is likely lower risk, but check with your doctor first.
Breastfeeding Use caution Safety is not well studied, so use cautiously and avoid applying near the nipple area.

Safety guidance is general; always confirm with your pharmacist or doctor for your situation.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Norgestrel page

“Norgestrel (Ovrette) is a progestin-only birth control pill, so the biggest danger on this page is not a strange side effect but a pill that quietly stops working. That risk makes this a page for genuine vigilance.”

  • What “no known interaction” means: no documented interaction in the sources above — not a guarantee of safety. Supplements are studied far less than prescription drugs, so we say exactly what the evidence supports, and nothing more.

About Emu Oil

What is Emu Oil?

  • Dry or irritated skin
  • Joint and muscle pain
  • Minor wounds and burns
  • Hair and scalp care
  • Anti-inflammatory skin support

Emu oil is a fat from the emu bird that is mostly used on the skin to moisturize and soothe irritation, and sometimes taken by mouth for inflammation. Human research is limited, so most claims are not well proven. It is generally well tolerated on the skin, but talk to your pharmacist or doctor before relying on it for any medical condition.

About Progestin-Only (norethindrone) Oral Contraceptives

What Is Progestin-Only (norethindrone) Oral Contraceptives Used For?

Brand names: Ovrette, Orval 21

Norethindrone progestin-only pills — sometimes called the "mini-pill" — are used solely to prevent pregnancy. They do not contain estrogen, which makes them an option for women who cannot or prefer not to use estrogen-containing contraceptives.

When taken perfectly (same time every day, no missed pills), fewer than 1 in 100 women will become pregnant in the first year. With typical use, that number rises to about 9 in 100 — mostly because of late or skipped pills. Consistency is everything with this method.

Most-Reported Side Effects for Norgestrel
