What Is Darbepoetin Alfa Injection Used For?
Brand name: Aranesp
Aranesp (darbepoetin alfa) injection is used to treat anemia — low red blood cell levels — in adults and some children with chronic kidney disease (CKD), whether or not they are on dialysis.
Aranesp is also used to treat anemia caused by myelosuppressive chemotherapy (cancer treatment that suppresses bone marrow) in people with non-myeloid cancers, when at least two more months of chemotherapy are planned. It is not a substitute for a blood transfusion when anemia needs to be corrected right away, and it is not approved for cancer patients whose treatment goal is a cure.
