Hedge-hyssop and Desmopressin Acetate

We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.

No Known Interaction Found

We did not find a documented interaction between Desmopressin Acetate and Hedge-hyssop in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.

Worth understanding: our licensed dataset holds no drug-interaction record for Hedge-hyssop at all — not against Desmopressin Acetate, and not against any other medication we track. This verdict therefore rests on the absence of any recorded data, not on research that looked at this combination and found nothing. We cannot rule an interaction out.

If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.

Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

What Hedge-hyssop Itself Has Been Linked To

Everything above comes from the Natural Medicines adverse-effect record for Hedge-hyssop — expand a row for the licensed statement it rests on. We read the ADVERSE REACTIONS section of Desmopressin Acetate’s FDA label too, and the two lists don’t meaningfully overlap — which is why no Desmopressin Acetate column appears here.

About Hedge-hyssop

What is Hedge-hyssop?

  • Constipation and as a laxative
  • Fluid retention (diuretic use)
  • Liver and digestive complaints
  • Skin conditions (traditional/topical)
  • Inducing vomiting (historical purgative)

Hedge-hyssop is a traditional European herb that was historically used as a strong laxative, diuretic, and purgative, but it is considered toxic and is not recommended for self-treatment. There is no reliable modern evidence that it is safe or effective, and serious poisoning has been reported, so it is best avoided.

Gratiola officinalis · Plantaginaceae · Aerial parts (leaves and flowering stems), sometimes the root · Dried herb, tincture, and historically homeopathic preparations

An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether Hedge-hyssop is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our Hedge-hyssop record says about it on its own.

Hedge-hyssop: dosing

There is no established safe or standardized dose of hedge-hyssop. Because the plant is toxic and the margin between a traditional dose and a harmful dose is narrow, no specific amount can be recommended. We do not advise self-treating with this herb.

About Desmopressin

What Is Desmopressin Used For?

Brand names: DDAVP, Noctiva, Nocdurna

Desmopressin is used for central diabetes insipidus, a condition where the body doesn't make enough antidiuretic hormone and produces too much urine. It also treats the temporary extreme thirst and urination that can follow head trauma or pituitary surgery (tablets and injection).

Some products are used for bleeding disorders. Desmopressin injection and Stimate nasal spray are used for mild-to-moderate hemophilia A and von Willebrand’s disease (Type I). Desmopressin and Ddavp tablets are also used for primary nocturnal enuresis (bedwetting). It does not work for nephrogenic diabetes insipidus, where the kidneys don't respond to the hormone.
