Insulin determir falls under ANTIDIABETES DRUGS — the group Hollyhock interacts with.

Animal and in vitro research shows that hollyhock flower extracts might lower blood glucose levels. While the effect of hollyhock in patients with diabetes has not been studied, theoretically, hollyhock might decrease blood glucose and have additive effects in patients treated with antidiabetes drugs. Dose adjustments to diabetes medications may be necessarily. Some antidiabetes drugs include glimepiride (Amaryl), glyburide (DiaBeta, Glynase PresTab, Micronase), insulin, metformin (Glucophage), pioglitazone (Actos), rosiglitazone (Avandia), and others.

Here's the gist with Levemir (insulin detemir) and hollyhock. Detemir is a long-acting insulin that already does the job of lowering your blood sugar. Some lab and animal studies hint that hollyhock flower extract may nudge blood sugar down too. Put them together and the worry is an additive drop, which could push you into a low (hypoglycemia). That can show up as shakiness, sweating, a fast heartbeat, confusion, or feeling lightheaded.

I'll be honest though, this is theoretical. We don't have human studies showing it actually happens, and casual culinary or tea amounts are far less likely to matter than concentrated supplement doses. Since insulin is precise, please loop in your pharmacist or doctor before adding hollyhock, and keep an eye on your glucose readings.

Levemir (insulin detemir) is used to improve blood sugar (glucose) control in adults and children with type 1 diabetes or type 2 diabetes. It is a basal insulin, meaning it works around the clock to keep background blood sugar levels steady.

Levemir is not recommended for treating diabetic ketoacidosis (a dangerous buildup of acids in the blood that requires a different type of insulin).
