Yohimbine, a constituent of Indian snakeroot, has sympathomimetic effects and increases blood pressure in a dose-dependent manner. Theoretically, taking Indian snakeroot with stimulant drugs can have additive stimulant and hypertensive effects.

Here's the gist for armodafinil (Nuvigil). Armodafinil is a wakefulness-promoting medicine that gives the body a mild stimulant push, and certain compounds in Indian snakeroot can have their own stimulant, blood-pressure-raising activity. Put the two together and the concern is that those effects could stack on top of each other.

In plain terms, you might see more of armodafinil's usual stimulant-type side effects, things like a faster or pounding heartbeat, higher blood pressure, jitteriness, headache, or trouble sleeping. I want to be honest though: this is a theoretical caution based on how the ingredients work, not on strong studies in people. Still, since both can affect your heart and blood pressure, please check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

Indian snakeroot is a traditional Ayurvedic plant that contains reserpine, a compound with real blood-pressure-lowering and sedative effects. Because its potent alkaloids can cause serious side effects like depression and very low blood pressure, it should never be used without medical supervision. It is not a safe or simple home remedy, and many countries restrict its use.

What Is Armodafinil Used For?

Brand name: Nuvigil

Armodafinil tablets (including the brand Nuvigil) are used to improve wakefulness in adults who have excessive sleepiness linked to one of three conditions: obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), narcolepsy, or shift work disorder (SWD).

In obstructive sleep apnea, armodafinil treats the sleepiness itself — not the underlying airway obstruction. If CPAP (a breathing device worn during sleep) is the right treatment for you, your doctor should try that first before adding armodafinil for sleepiness.
