Indian Snakeroot + Atomoxetine
Atomoxetine brand name: Strattera.
Indian Snakeroot has a moderate interaction with Atomoxetine. Theoretically, Indian snakeroot might inhibit CYP2D6 enzymes and reduce the metabolism of CYP2D6 substrates.

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES
Why this applies to Atomoxetine
Atomoxetine falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES — the group Indian Snakeroot interacts with.
Indian snakeroot contains small amounts of the drug yohimbine. In vitro research shows that yohimbine inhibits CYP2D6 enzyme activity.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the thing to know about pairing Indian snakeroot with atomoxetine (Strattera). Your body clears atomoxetine mainly through a liver enzyme called CYP2D6. Lab studies suggest snakeroot (because it contains a bit of yohimbine) might slow that enzyme down. Atomoxetine is active as-is, not a prodrug, so blocking its breakdown could let it build up in your system.
Higher levels can mean stronger effects and more side effects, things like a faster heartbeat, higher blood pressure, trouble sleeping, dry mouth, or feeling jittery. Honestly though, this warning rests on test-tube data, not real patients, so it's more theoretical than proven. Snakeroot itself can also drop your blood pressure on its own. Before combining these, please check with your doctor or pharmacist first.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Atomoxetine page
“Atomoxetine (Strattera), the non-stimulant ADHD medicine, leaves the body mainly through one liver enzyme, CYP2D6, and that dependence is why this list deserves genuine care. Sixty of the 77 ingredients here, goldenseal and CBD among them, may slow that enzyme, letting atomoxetine build up along with side effects like a faster heartbea…”

About Indian Snakeroot
What is Indian Snakeroot?
- High blood pressure
- Anxiety and stress
- Insomnia
- Agitation
- Fever (traditional use)
Indian snakeroot is a traditional Ayurvedic plant that contains reserpine, a compound with real blood-pressure-lowering and sedative effects. Because its potent alkaloids can cause serious side effects like depression and very low blood pressure, it should never be used without medical supervision. It is not a safe or simple home remedy, and many countries restrict its use.
