What Is Elexacaftor, Tezacaftor, and Ivacaftor Used For?

Brand name: Trikafta

Trikafta (elexacaftor, tezacaftor, and ivacaftor) is approved to treat cystic fibrosis (CF) in adults and children aged 2 years and older who have a clinical diagnosis of CF and at least one variant in the CFTR gene that is responsive to the medication or that produces CFTR protein. If the patient's genetic type is unknown, an FDA-cleared CF genetic test should be used to confirm eligibility before starting treatment.

Trikafta is not the right choice for everyone with CF — the presence of a qualifying gene variant alone is not the only factor; a confirmed clinical diagnosis of CF is also required.
