Umbralisib Tosylate falls under HEPATOTOXIC DRUGS — the group Niacin interacts with.

Theoretically, concomitant use of niacin and hepatotoxic drugs might increase the risk of hepatotoxicity.
Niacin has been associated with cases of liver toxicity, especially when used in pharmacologic doses. Sustained-release niacin preparations appear to be associated with a higher risk of hepatotoxicity than immediate-release niacin.

Here's the gist with Ukoniq (umbralisib) and niacin. Umbralisib can be tough on the liver on its own, and high-dose niacin (the drug-like amounts, not the small amounts in a regular multivitamin) has also been linked to liver irritation. Stack the two and you may add a little more strain on the same organ.

This is a theoretical concern based on how both behave, not a proven, common problem, so I don't want to alarm you. Still, watch for warning signs like yellowing of your skin or eyes, dark urine, belly pain on the upper right side, or unusual tiredness. Sustained-release niacin seems riskier for the liver than the immediate-release kind. Since umbralisib already requires liver monitoring, please check with your oncologist or pharmacist before adding any high-dose niacin.

What Is Umbralisib Used For?

Brand name: Ukoniq

  • Umbralisib is used to treat marginal zone lymphoma (MZL; a slow growing cancer that begins in a type of white blood cells that normally fight infection) in adults whose cancer has returned or did not respond to a certain type of medication. It is also used to treat follicular lymphoma (FL; a type of cancer that begins in the white blood cells) in adults whose cancer has returned or did not respond to at least three other medications. Umbralisib is in a class of medications called kinase inhibitors. It works by blocking the action of the abnormal protein that signals cancer cells to multiply. This helps stop the spread of cancer cells.
