Oregon Fir Balsam and Ciclesonide

We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.

No Known Interaction Found

We did not find a documented interaction between Ciclesonide and Oregon Fir Balsam in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.

Worth understanding: our licensed dataset holds no drug-interaction record for Oregon Fir Balsam at all — not against Ciclesonide, and not against any other medication we track. This verdict therefore rests on the absence of any recorded data, not on research that looked at this combination and found nothing. We cannot rule an interaction out.

If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.

Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

Oregon Fir Balsam safety at a glance

Oregon Fir Balsam overall Use caution Generally used topically and as a scent, but it can cause skin irritation or allergic reactions and lacks strong safety data for internal use.
Pregnancy Avoid Safety has not been established, so it is best to avoid medicinal or internal use during pregnancy.
Breastfeeding Avoid There is not enough information on safety while breastfeeding, so avoid medicinal use.

Safety guidance is general; always confirm with your pharmacist or doctor for your situation.

From the ADVERSE REACTIONS section of the FDA label for Ciclesonide. Read the label on DailyMed › Where a percentage is shown, it is the share of 13,541 voluntary FDA FAERS reports for Ciclesonide that mention that effect — a reporting proportion, not an incidence rate and not evidence the drug caused it. Oregon Fir Balsam’s licensed record lists no adverse effects our clinical vocabulary could match, so there is no Oregon Fir Balsam side to compare — that is a limit of the record, not a statement that Oregon Fir Balsam has no side effects.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Ciclesonide page

“Ciclesonide (Alvesco, Omnaris, Zetonna) is a corticosteroid for asthma and nasal allergies, and even though it is inhaled rather than swallowed, its supplement list warrants genuine care. The body clears it through the CYP3A4 enzyme, and 121 of the 166 ingredients on file nudge that pathway one way or the other.”

About Oregon Fir Balsam

What is Oregon Fir Balsam?

  • Minor cuts and skin wounds
  • Sore muscles and joints
  • Coughs and chest congestion
  • Antimicrobial skin applications
  • Aromatherapy and scenting products

Oregon Fir Balsam is a fragrant tree resin from fir species, traditionally used on the skin and in cough and aromatherapy products. There is very little high-quality human research to support its medical uses, and concentrated forms can irritate skin or cause allergic reactions, so use it cautiously and check with a pharmacist or doctor first.

Pinaceae · Oleoresin (pitch/balsam) from the fir tree, and sometimes the needles · Resin, salve or ointment, essential oil, tincture

An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether Oregon Fir Balsam is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our Oregon Fir Balsam record says about it on its own.

Oregon Fir Balsam: dosing

There is no established standard dose for Oregon Fir Balsam. The right amount depends on the product and how it is used (for example, a salve versus a diluted essential oil).Follow the directions on the product label, and dilute essential oils properly before applying them to the skin.
