Ciclesonide falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Acacia Rigidula interacts with.

Theoretically, Acacia rigidula products that are adulterated with beta-methylphenylethylamine (BMPEA) might increase the levels of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro research shows that BMPEA, an adulterant found in many Acacia rigidula products, inhibits CYP3A4 enzyme by 37%.

Here's the situation with your inhaled ciclesonide (Alvesco or Omnaris). Your liver uses an enzyme called CYP3A4 to help break it down. Some Acacia rigidula products have been found spiked with a stimulant called BMPEA, and in lab tests that ingredient slowed CYP3A4 by about a third. In theory, that could let more ciclesonide hang around in your body, nudging up the usual steroid side effects (think mouth or throat irritation, hoarseness, or more rarely things tied to higher steroid exposure).

That said, this is theoretical and only based on a test-tube study, so I don't want to alarm you. With an inhaled steroid, your overall body exposure is fairly low to begin with. Honestly, my bigger worry is the supplement itself, since these products are poorly regulated. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor before using anything with Acacia rigidula.

What Is Ciclesonide Oral Inhalation Used For?

Brand names: Omnaris, Alvesco, Zetonna

Alvesco (ciclesonide) inhaler is approved for the maintenance treatment of asthma as a preventive therapy in adults and children 12 years of age and older. It is taken regularly to reduce airway inflammation and help prevent asthma symptoms — not to relieve a sudden attack.

Alvesco is not a rescue inhaler and should not be used to treat sudden wheezing or acute asthma episodes. It is also not approved for children under 12.
