Acacia Rigidula + Lamotrigine
Lamotrigine brand name: Lamictal.
We found no known interaction between Acacia Rigidula and Lamotrigine in our sources. Absence of a documented interaction is not the same as proven safety, and does not guarantee one does not exist. Do not start, stop, or change a medication or supplement based on this page; confirm with your pharmacist or doctor first.
Acacia Rigidula and Lamotrigine
We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.
No Known Interaction Found
We did not find a documented interaction between Lamotrigine and Acacia Rigidula in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.
If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.
Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

Why No Interaction Is Listed for Lamotrigine
Interactions in our licensed database are recorded against drug classes, not just single drug names. Lamotrigine is filed under 5 classifications — including anticonvulsants, glucuronidated drugs, cns depressants. Acacia Rigidula has documented interactions with 3 drug classes — the most serious being cytochrome p450 2d6 (cyp2d6) substrates (moderate), cytochrome p450 3a4 (cyp3a4) substrates (moderate) and stimulant drugs (moderate) — and none of Lamotrigine’s classifications are among them.
Classification data comes from our licensed Natural Medicines dataset. A medication can belong to classes beyond those recorded there, so this describes how the check was run — it is not a safety guarantee.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Lamotrigine page
“Alcohol, ordinary beer or wine, sits at the top of the interaction list for lamotrigine (Lamictal), with well-documented added sedation, and it sets the tone for a list I would treat with real care. Of the 116 supplements and herbs on file, 78 have sedative effects of their own, so the biggest theme by far is stacked drowsiness and slo…”

About Acacia Rigidula
What is Acacia Rigidula?
- Weight loss
- Energy and stimulation
- Boosting metabolism
- Appetite control
- Pre-workout/athletic performance
Acacia rigidula is a shrub from Texas and Mexico that is marketed in weight-loss and energy supplements. There is very little reliable human evidence that it works, and some products have been found to contain an unapproved stimulant drug (BMPEA), which raises real safety concerns. Most people should avoid it and talk to a pharmacist or doctor before trying any product containing it.

An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether Acacia Rigidula is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our Acacia Rigidula record says about it on its own.
Acacia Rigidula: dosing
There is no established or proven safe dose for Acacia rigidula. Given the safety concerns, many pharmacists would recommend avoiding these products altogether.

About Lamotrigine
What Is Lamotrigine Used For?
Brand name: Lamictal
Lamotrigine is used to treat several types of seizures in adults and children aged 2 and older — including partial-onset seizures, generalized tonic-clonic (grand mal) seizures, and seizures related to Lennox-Gastaut syndrome. In older teens and adults, it can also be used alone (monotherapy) after transitioning off another seizure medicine.
For adults with bipolar I disorder, lamotrigine is used as a maintenance treatment — meaning it helps delay the return of mood episodes like depression, mania, or mixed states. It is not approved to treat an active manic or mixed episode that's happening right now.

Lamotrigine Is Linked to Lower Levels of One Nutrient
Natural Medicines records Lamotrigine as a medicine that can lower these. This is not an interaction with Acacia Rigidula — it is a separate effect of the medicine, and it is a reason some people are advised to supplement rather than to avoid one:
