Acacia Rigidula + Prednisone
Prednisone brand names: Deltasone, Cortan, Orasone, Prednisone, Prednicen-M, and others.
Acacia Rigidula has a moderate interaction with Prednisone. Theoretically, Acacia rigidula products that are adulterated with beta-methylphenylethylamine (BMPEA) might increase the levels of CYP3A4 substrates.

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES
Why this applies to Prednisone
Prednisone falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Acacia Rigidula interacts with.
In vitro research shows that BMPEA, an adulterant found in many Acacia rigidula products, inhibits CYP3A4 enzyme by 37%.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist of it: your body uses a liver enzyme called CYP3A4 to help clear prednisone. Some Acacia rigidula products are spiked with an unapproved stimulant called BMPEA, and lab studies suggest BMPEA can slow that enzyme down by about a third. In theory, that could let more prednisone build up in your system than usual, which might mean stronger effects and a higher chance of side effects like trouble sleeping, mood swings, raised blood sugar, fluid retention, or stomach upset.
But keep this in perspective. This warning comes only from test-tube research, not real patients, so it's theoretical. The bigger concern with Acacia rigidula is the hidden stimulant itself. I'd skip it and check with your pharmacist or doctor first.

Questions About Acacia Rigidula or Prednisone
These are real questions from readers, answered by the pharmacists at HelloPharmacist — written by a person, not generated from a database. Each one covers Acacia Rigidula or Prednisone, not necessarily both, but if one is close to what you were about to ask it will usually go further than a database entry can:

This page covers Acacia Rigidula only. If you take other supplements — a multivitamin, a sleep aid, something for joints — the Prednisone page lists 208 supplements it has a documented interaction with, worst first, each one explained.
The most serious there right now: Activated Charcoal (major), Grapefruit (major), Lily-of-the-valley (major), St. John's Wort (major) and Active Hexose Correlated Compound (ahcc) (moderate).
By severity: 4 major · 168 moderate · 36 minor.
From our pharmacist’s overview on the Prednisone page
“Prednisone (Deltasone) suppresses the immune system to control inflammation, and that mechanism shapes most of what can go wrong on this 208-ingredient list, which I read as one to approach carefully rather than casually. Four entries rate major.”

About Acacia Rigidula
What is Acacia Rigidula?
- Weight loss
- Energy and stimulation
- Boosting metabolism
- Appetite control
- Pre-workout/athletic performance
Acacia rigidula is a shrub from Texas and Mexico that is marketed in weight-loss and energy supplements. There is very little reliable human evidence that it works, and some products have been found to contain an unapproved stimulant drug (BMPEA), which raises real safety concerns. Most people should avoid it and talk to a pharmacist or doctor before trying any product containing it.
About Prednisone
What Is Prednisone Used For?
Brand names: Deltasone, Cortan, Orasone, Prednisone, Prednicen-M, Meticorten, Sterapred, Rayos
Prednisone is used as an anti-inflammatory or immunosuppressive medicine (one that lowers immune activity). It treats many conditions across several body systems.
Main groups include:
- Allergic conditions, such as severe allergic rhinitis, atopic dermatitis and drug reactions
- Joint and autoimmune conditions, such as rheumatoid arthritis and lupus
- Skin, gut, blood, eye, lung and kidney conditions
- Hormone (endocrine) conditions, such as adrenal insufficiency
- Palliative care for certain leukemias and lymphomas
Prednisone delayed-release tablets (including Rayos) are also labeled for organ transplant rejection, asthma, COPD flares, and idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. The standard tablet and solution labels list other uses, such as bursitis, tenosynovitis and severe psoriasis.
